Ah red lead! This is 2k red as was the body, but with a nice coating of dust :) should be fun trying to get the shine back in the engine bay!

@flak monkey - sorry i missed your reply!! A nasty side swipe covered up with many years of body filler is what happened :( I had to grind between 1/2 and 1" of filler off the door, and almost the same on the fender! So had a loooot of metal work to do. I really did learn my lesson about stripping a cars paint job down when you start a resto. All that glitters isn't gold as they say. Had i discovered this back in 2010 i would have got replacement parts, but it's so far into the build, i must be stubborn and persist

So another step back - managed to dent one of the mirrors, which meant taking apart the housing to get to the dent. In doing so, the screws holding the unit together were seized, so had to put a lot into getting them freed up, which meant a broken mirror glass. So actually 2 steps back, as need to order mirror glass from the states, find some sort of glue that will hold it in and of course knock the dent out.

You really are having a bit of bad luck at the moment aren't you? You might be able to get a mirror glass over here. Most car accessory places sell replacement mirror glass, well it's not actually glass but plastic, which can be trimmed to the shape you need hth

cheers..Nige

lol it doesn't stop there - when i trimmed the springs so it would look less like a monster truck, i did 1/2 a coil, then it sat better, but looked too high, so i trimmed a 1/4 of a coil. Then before installing back in, posted on here about which way up the spring should be as i was having a lot of difficulty with it. Someone posted saying pigtail down, flat side up in the chasis rail. Now, i had been putting the coil pigtail up, as that's how it came out the first time. That explains why the car was probably so high in the first place! needless to say, didn't need to trim the extra 1/4. Now i have to take apart the front suspension again to get an isolator in there to lift it back up. :wall:

Thanks for the tip on plastic mirror, i'll try and find somewhere local as that would save a lot of hassle!

Front ride height when i got the car: (used the wood block to get an exact measure on the height of the tyre, rather than tying to guess by eyeline)
