I was asked to paint a guitar for the MD of a Volvo truck dealership, the brief being that it carried a Volvo theme along with a link to his band the "PH Project". The rear of the guitar was to be relatively simple, whilst the front is to have a bit more artwork on it than the back. I prepped the guitar, sprayed it black & blue candy & added the Volvo & PH Project logos. Last night I gave the artwork a coat of lacquer to seal it, prior to staring on the front. Needless to say I had a bit of a shock when I went to work on it this morning as the lacquer had reacted badly. Just goes to show that even the pro's have a bit of bad luck every now & then. So, it was back to the drawing board & strip it all of & start again, Grrr!!

Hi Nige I understand your frustration having seen a previous guitar you painted. Look on the bright side at least it has not got gravel rash like one of mine did, after repeatedly having similar reactions/problems. I have to admit to losing the plot completely and launching it down my drive, then kicked it back up accompanied by a string of obcenities. This did not enhance it mearly meant it then needed filling! This was I hasten to add a good few years back AND it was my guitar! I put it down to the struggle Ive had with growing up! There's still some would say Ive still not managed it yet. Maybe I should give up tryin! Please lets see it when it finished, the last one looked great. Cheers Steve

Well, here it is again. I just gave it a quick coat of lacquer to seal it all in. Once the whole guitar's finished I'll flat it all down & give it the final lacquer coats followed by a good flat, cut back & polish

I sanded it right back to the wood & started again. Yes I did say a few words beginning with "F", like "deary deary me" & Oh, that's not good".

Unfortunately Steve, as much as I wanted to burn it, I couldn't as it's not my guitar. Ah, well, that's 7 hours of my life I'm not going to get back. On to the front next,.......

cheers...Nige

I did a small tutorial ages ago on Evilzee's build thread. Unfortunately a lot of the pictures were lost due to forum problems a while ago. If there's interest I'll post up another one.

cheers...Nige

Yesterday I managed to do a bit more to the guitar, adding a Volvo FH truck, which according to the owner is a new model. :D. There are no wheels or tyres on this as it's gonna be a spaceship. ;) ;)

next is the Volvo space station, ok....don't snigger at the back

Here's todays little foray into custom painting,.......... a Volvo space station  Still a bit of detail work to do & tidy up some bits n pieces that aren't quite right, but it's got the basics of what I want

Just gotta join the truck to the space station, add some planets & stars & get it lacquered up, sounds simple when I say it quick

cheers...Nige
