Hi guys, I am currently restoring an 81 camaro, got the 350 engine in, unfortunately all wiring had been disconnected so i dont know where anything goes...

Can anyone give me the basics? what colour wires to look for? what goes to alternator, dizzy, starter etc, then which are for temp sensor / oil pressure, and anything else you can think of to get the engine started.

Thanks

Also if you guys know where Battery leads are supposed to go to?, i'd love a home made drawing if anyone has a chance..

Thanks in advance!

Andee

I will have a look at mine tomorrow, and try and take some pics, but it's been so bodged and modified over the years I don't know how original it is.

Files named a - d run in order from engine to rear, so you could print the, stick them together in one big piece and colour code them with felt pens. I was bored that day

The others in the post below are all the extra's and option. let me know what you get stuck on, i sent a lot of time on the wiring of mine so became quite familiar with the whole lot unfortunately

Brill thanks people!

I started hooking up wires today.. tried to turn it over (after realising the clutch needs to be pushed in) but the starter seems awfully sluggish.. I had to add new battery cables and earth wires so I think there is the problem....

The main battery leads I used jump leads (400 amp cheap ones - as I was hacking the ends off them), and the battery is also only an 065 with I think around 3-400 cca...

My plan tomorrow, buy some 800A wire, massive ringlets, and a range rover sized battery and hopefully, some more will happen...

any input from u guys would be ace.

Tidy engine bay

Have you installed a neutral start then?

Sluggish starter, hmmm, could be:

1) fixed by the heavier gauge wires you have coming
2) I've read batteries should be up in the 600 starter amp category, even up to 750
3) Higher compression motor by any chance? Chevystu mentioned on another thread that higher compression engines need hi torque starters. I think he had one for sale, not sure if that's still true - incase the above 2 don't work out.

All in all glad you got it wired up so that it starts and runs
