hi nige,

as you seem to know what you are talking about - a guy knew about camaros in the pub the other day and started showing interest and asking questions - i told him about only recent paperwork and showed him the tag etc and he had a look around the car and offered decent money there and then - i wasnt sure if he was serious or not but he said he was and he had a nice new range rover so i doubt he was joking.

He offered £18k for the car without really batting an eyelid and without me giving him an indication as to what its worth - do you think i should have taken it?

I have his number.

cheers

Hi, sorry for taking so long to answer but my computers still up the creek & is away being repaired, so I have to borrow one to get on here. ;)

To be honest it's a hard question to answer as there are so many variables. If you compare the price to a Mustang then it's fairly cheap compared the prices some of them are fetching now, but as Camaro's go it's probably a very good price for an extremely good 2nd gen. But, if you were to try to replicate that car & rebuild one from the ground up, it'd probably cost you an awful lot more by the time you buy the car, body panels, running gear, trim etc plus the labour for someone to do it all & paint it.

This really is a decision that only you can make. If you need the money, or if you want a change then it's probably a very good offer, although I would haggle & try to get more for it ;) ( I know someone that was offered £50K for their 1st gen, but had £50K tied up in it to build it). If you're happy with the car & don't need the money then hold on to it, & enjoy it. It's only going to appreciate in value if it's kept in good condition, but it may take a while before the right buyer comes along & offers you that sort of money again. I Hope that helps in some way ;) . If you were to sell it would you buy/build another car? Cheers........Nige

hi nige,

i don't need the money and the car is paid for so I don't need to sell - its a great car and its my first 'yank'. I bought this to dip my toe in the water to see if i liked muscle cars - and I can now say i love them! The response from people is fantastic and much more positive than say a modern supercar and the sound is intoxicating.

I may now shell out a bit more on one - something like a very original numbers matching charger or a 'cuda

I may put it up for sale for a bit more than that and if someone comes along with the money i'll sell and upgrade to a charger or cuda and also call this chap that made the offer and try and get a bit more for it if I can.

I haven't had it long though and I like it - the last thing i was expecting was an offer on it!! Mind you I suppose if the money is right who wouldn't sell?

Any other good cars for sale for around the £50k mark or under? Doesn't have to be a camaro.

cheers

i like the look of that trans am for £26500 - seems to be very fast.

i have agreed with a mate of mine though that even though the same year as my camaro it looks a bit too modern.

i think i may keep an eye on their site as it looks like they get some good cars.

there is a black supercharged chevelle on ebay.com at about $35k going up all the time. its all black with really wide chrome rear wheels and the supercharger coming out of the bonnet - i think i need something like that next :)

I'd get in touch with him as he has lots of different cars coming and going all the time, some may not make it onto his site!!

the guy said £18k was his max offer but i suppose is there in future just in case.

I don't really intend to sell it but i have put it up on some classic sites just to see if it does get any interest - if it sells it sells and i'll move up to a pro street road legal car and i'll import it from the US

im not expecting to sell it but if I do its a bonus and if not then i'll keep it probably till next summer and i'll more proactively start trying to sell it then i can get into a very fast supercharged chevelle mmmmmmmm

ok guys - seen a MINT car that i'm after - prob not great value for money at $52k but my heart is telling me to buy it.

If someone is interested in the camaro please call - I did ring the guy up who offered £18k for it but he says he bought something else - not sure if he was a messer etc.

Anyway, was offered £18k previously may take a bit less than that which would give me some $$ to throw at this mint pro street chevelle!

cheers
