Being relatively inexperienced with yank muscle (this will be my first one), what sort of bug bears and issues/quirks
do I need to look out for when buying a Gen 1? Got my heart set on a SS.

any advice any tips would be very kuch appreciated!

That was quick. My advice would be research everything you can. Knowledge is power someone said and it sure doe's help
if you know what you are looking at. Many good books out there about restoring Gen1's. Bodywork is my biggest worry.
Lower quarters, A Post, rear screen filler panel, Roof and B post. other panels are all bolt on and can be purchased,
(depending on budget or repaired). No problem if you know a good body shop.

The biggest problem with buying a 1st Gen is the Bank Balance :lol: :lol: or lack of it. :crazy:

Lowered ,mild body mods,400 cu in SBC engine, Muncie 4speed, 10 bolt posi axle,disc front drum rear.

Hi and welcome , the first thing I would check out on a 1st gen would be the condition of the trunk floor , if you have serious issues on the floor chances are good the car will also have issues in the rear frame rails and maybe the area in the rear seat pan and inner rocker areas. Water often enters from rust in the back window channel or the seal around the trunk lid.
Also be careful of cars that are freshly painted...filler and rust could be hidden by attractive paint .

thanks! some good tips.

Do i need to use 97 octane with a lead additive in the fuel as well? Hear conflicting reports as to whether this is required.

American engines after '72 run on normal unleaded ,unless you have abnormally high compression normal unleaded will be fine .For hi-comp engines an octane booster might be needed to avoid detonation but often slight alteration to timing is all you need .
