Howie,
Hope you are well, lets start with speakers 4th generation and convertible. worst case scenario
being a older of the 4th generation (1993?) that makes the speakers in the car 16 years old.
convertible means they may have been subject to moisture at a time in thier lives. With that in mind
Speakers are manufactered by all sorts of manufacterers the rule of thumb the more that you pay
the better quality you SHOULD be getting. As long as you are considering replacing Speakers It wont hurt to remove one in order to Identify its configuration , 6x5 6x9 ...etc. then to consider the depth of the hole the speaker fits so that you may consider magnet size (too large a magnet may interfere
with the doors inner workings. (check with the window down if its in the door!) It is usually customary to replace speakers with the same OHM rating I understand that 8 OHM is a standard in the industry.
be sure to check what you remove. Considering what you encountered with the vette you had ,It was a Bose system and i belive it may have incorporated its own amplifier so before you "axe" the
factory system see what it sounds like with new speakers, You may be pleasantly surprised !!
good luck with that !!!!!
Regards
Dave
