Well, spoken to the mechanic (they also build rally cars) about my concerns after a weekend of reading online about optimum temperatures for ATF.
He pointed out that with the rally cars, they use an equation to figure out the best size cooler for the car, based on average temperatures, engine size, gear box etc.
It'll be fitted without cutting the original lines, just using adaptors to the fittings, so it can be returned to stock in the future.
We still haven't decided between in front or behind the radiator yet.

I've also asked them to change the ATF, and filter and fit the B&M shift kit while they're there. Seems like a good time to show the auto box some love!

Well she's back home, all mended.
Fitted a Mocal cooler in place of the air con doodad in front of the radiator.
She's shifting much more nicely now too having had the ATF changed and a new filter.
Oh, and the window's much easier now the door inner's been cleaned out and generally relubed etc.
Feels nice to be back behind the wheel! From the sounds of it though, a new exhaust should be next on the list...

Ok, the rads becoming an issue again.
I'd bodged a quick elastoplast on it in the shape of some JB Weld pushed into the rad to cover the teeny tiny weeping leaks that have been a real nuisance.
Most recently, the garage noticed there's now 3 places she's leaking from.
This is an ex-radiator, I think we can safely say.

Anyway - thing is, I got caught in a traffic jam on the way to work.
Stuck for about 20 minutes of not moving, and the thermostat climbed up to the red, at which point I switched the engine off.
Once we were under way again, she was happier and the temps came down.
I checked the level in the radiator when I got home, and sure enough, the rad's full to the brim, but the overflow bottle was about 50% below the 'Full Cold' line.
So I've topped her off again.

Should I just stick in an OEM rad and be done with it?

Bearing in mind, that it was just above freezing this morning, I really want to get this sorted before the summer shows up and fries the head off the block!

don't know what to say about the rad, that really sucks Do you have an electric fan or is it running off the crank?

She's got 2 16" electric fans - not the OEM numbers but ones that came with the new rad.
I think at this point, I'm going back to an OEM style number. Did a bit of searching tonight, and s firm called Nissen seem to be reasonably priced and do an aluminium core, but with the plastic end tanks.
