Are you planning to seam seal then paint? A lot of restorer people i've seen will etch prime, then seam seal, then paint. This way you can ensure you the best adhesion etc. Just my 2 cents :)

Tell me about it!!!!! I've been doing the undercarraige and the repairs werent painted, just undercoated, and the welds werent' ground back, so it's such a pain in the ass right now, especially having to do that all upside down :(

Thanks, yep I will give it a coat of epoxy paint first, then seam seal and then another coat of epoxy, thats the plan anyway.

There's going to be lots of prepping and painting tomorrow as long as the weather is ok.

As for grinding welds, I only bother where they are visible, seems a little pointless on the floor TBH.

hope you're out there getting some good work done today :) I'm trying to get motivated to go out but it's cold and i've got bored of being upside down.

This is my problem and why this build is taking so long "I only bother where they are visible, seems a little pointless on the floor TBH" - for some reason i think that it must do repairs to look invisible from whatever angle you look at it. I think i have this deep psychological thing that a girl will one day be like hey, nice car, have a quick look round and say, oh i can see that repair, and then i don't get laid :geek: Could happen. :lol:

Anyway, hope the progress is good for you today mate!

Yeah I understand! I like to have things just so as well. 12 months ago I would have been flatting all those welds down and blending it all in. But now, for something thats not going to be seen, I have come to the realisation that it's really a lot of work for little gain. But then if you are going for a show winning car or yours is original, then thats a different matter!

If I had wanted to make my job easier I'd have scrapped the thing and bought another one! :lol:

It was a bit cold outside, and also kept raining on and off again, didn't stop me though.

Spent all morning cleaning off underseal, then wirebrushing and sanding the floor down ready for paint. Used the good old Jotun 87 again. Thinned about 30%, not only is it easier to brush on, but it also runs into all the nooks and crannies much better. Just needs another coat tomorrow and thats the floor done, finally!

Things always look better when they are one colour eh? Paint was still wet when I took the pics.

Mostly finished the engine assembly off tonight as my pushrods arrived so got them in, adjusted the rockers, fitted the inlet manifold and popped the rocker covers on just to keep the crap out of it. Last thing to do it the sump, which also arrived today, but I need to paint it. A job for tomorrow.

Nice to know the rear spring shackle mount was nice and solid :lol:

My favourite job, welding and cutting upside down under a rusty old car, now covered in small burns and old crap :roll:

Got both rear sections of frame rail replaced, along with the floor above them. Going to sort the inside of the rear panel out when I replace the actual tail panel, as it saves doing it upside down!

Cleaning and painting the underside of the trunk floor and frame rails is the next job. Was going to do it today, but got distracted by other things. Should be fun, my second favourite job :roll:

On the plus side, the structural repairs are done now, just cosmetic panel work now.

Wow! that erm, wasn't doing a whole lot structurally lol. I'm surprised the back wasn't hanging at a 45 degree angle :lol: . Nice job on the repair - did you get the frame rails from a doner car? Looks much better! What are you planning on doing the with the the back - where the fuel filler goes? Seems like the bottom part of the sheet metal has seen better days. Thanks for all the update and keep up the great work!!

Got the new sections from a donor car, had them blasted and painted with epoxy primer/sealer before installing.

Going to be cutting the whole back panel off the car and repairing and replacing as required. So that rotten old inner panel will be going soom :thumbup:
