Hello, i had a similiar problem with my chevy truck, and in my case it actually turned out to be the ignition barrel was worn, could turn the key but nothing happen, i changed it with a spare i had n that sorted the problem!! perhaps try leaving the keys on and take a live from the battery to the starter to see if she turns over!!

Weirdly, she's been fine lately.
So I'm putting off buying a new starter until nearer the end of the month.
In the mean time, I need to go back to the garage that fitted the new rad and ask why she's losing coolant when I supplied a new rad and hoses...

Hi did you manage to check out any of your earth or power connections to your starter or check anything out :crazy: glad it back up and running ,but it would be nice to find out the problem. The best way is to check one thing at a time to possibley nail it down to one thing .Two many people do half a dozen things then if its sorted they dont know whats fixed it :crazy: lets know how you go, like a few of the guys have said if you were a lot closer i would have look with you .Cheers Neil :thumbup:

Small update on this:

Starter was replaced. Looked like a fault with the commutator. Got a quote locally for parts and rebuilding that with new brushes etc.
Then bought a new starter via AMPAR for a reasonable ~£85 delivered.
While she was in the garage I dropped off a windscreen wiper switch as well - with some success.
I now have wipers that come on, and at both lo and high speeds.
No intermittent, and no mist function though.
Also, my driver's side front indicators and the dash light have given up the ghost.
And that new radiator? Teeny tiny leak on it somewhere. Resigned to having to keep topping her up until I can find someone local that's handy with a tig welder and rad repairs.
And while I was driving her home from the garage, the thermostat rocked up into the red and sat there, so I pulled over and let her cool down a bit.
I'm not convinced my new fans are working either.
Oh, and while I waiting, I spotted that the shoulder of my front tyres are looking very low on tread, despite only being about a year old and covering less than 5000 miles.

I love the car so much, but seriously... the first person to give me £4k might prise the keys from my hand...

Hi the starter sounds like a bargain as for your fans not cutting in ,start your motor and warm it up standing still (itll heat up quicker ) keep an eye on your temp gauge and listen out for your fans starting up ,iff they dont kick in check your connectors,if all looks ok dissconect the wires from the temp sender (to your fans ) should be two wires link them togeather bypassing the switch and the fans should kick in :thumbup: if not take it back to the garage that fit them ,p.s also check relays if any were fitted :thumbup: stick with it mate Cheers Neil .P.P.S also it may be worth getting an Auto Electrician to have a look and sort out your gremlins :evil Just sorted my mates MG out same problem its fitted with a Rover V8 so the fans are realy important . :crazy: pitty your so far away .

Update on this:

My mechanic left his previous place; nobody was too specific as to why.
Anyway, after the way they installed the windscreen wiper switch, I tracked the guys down to their new place.
Turns out the car had been brought round to them for 2.5 hrs by the old place when they were fitting the wiper switch!
So, I left the car with them yesterday with the instruction to dig into the wiring issues - the gauges, the drivers seat not functioning, the indicators.
Ended up with her indicator fault being a complete rewire from the relay to the bulb, the lower driving light bulbs were replaced, they had the carpet out to re-earth the drivers seat and they found a bad body earth in the engine bay.
All of which means my car, for the first time in my ownership, has gauges that all read properly! And the wipers work! And the seat works! And I can indicate to other traffic!

The radiator fan issue is another story - they've been wired in back to front, so instead of sucking they're blowing against the radiator.
This will be sorted when the leak gets taken care of!

Getting there slowly!

Hi glad you,r getting there, its always good when things work as they should :thumbup: to get your fans to suck instead of blow you need to reverse the polarity ,(disconect the two wires supplying power one live the other earth and put them on the opposite way round )but just to make sure connect one wire then touch the two other pieces( to be connected) together and your fans should suck :crazy: that is aslong as your engine is up to temp ofcourse :? did that make sense .Cheers Neil :clap:

Cheers Neil - I'll have a poke and see if I can swap the polarity easily enough. I don't own a soldering iron, so I'll just see if I can slip the contacts in the connector free and swap them over.
