I have plenty of options for my pro touring build..

But if I want to do some quick upgrades and sell the car, I need something more cost effective.

My pro touring plan are set in stone as its something I have wanted to do for ever, but I don't know if I should use this car as the base.

If I can find a buyer for it, I can buy that shell of eBay.

Well yes we have had trouble about 2 years ago- the discs crazed up and began to crack after one race meeting- albeit at 40c in Capetown Killarney track which is SERIOUSLY hard on brakes

Down from 160 mph plus to the banked 180 degree turn x2 each lap

Not impressed

They were told of this and delivered a new set of discs for free (having changed suppliers ) last year- fitted before we left UK in Dec 2010

now they are fine- and don't need changing even after having done South Africa and various other events all this year! So am very happy to recommend same.

A pro-touring build is definately more worthwhile on a solid car that has loads of parts missing, broken or wrong that you were gonna replace anyway.

My car was a always a mish-mash of parts that needed replacing at some point so I had no hesitation in changing and modernising it, as it was never gonna be a numbers matching showpiece.. And it's nowhere near as desirable as a 1st gen..

I'm with the other guys here - please keep these genuine / numbers matching ones as they are

Some optimium modding would be nice - uprated suspension and brakes etc ye sure, and some good work on the engine and that will be good

Protouring is great for those cars that as ChevyStu said are a mish mash, but it looks great already!

I would enjoy it for what it is and if you want to do a project - grab a project like the one on ebay and save another one from scrapyard as each year these get less and less in numbers. Especially being an SS (if it is) you have plenty of power at hand and just need to do a bit of suspension and brake work. The big question really is - What do you want to do with it? Are you actually going to use it as a pro tourer and race it? or do just prefer the look of a pro tourer?

My 2 cents anyway, it's your car so up to you what you do as you get the enjoyment out of it (plus the people you drive past )

I want to build a pro tourer show car.

I am not a historic guy and not really interested in owning the car for its historic merit. I can how ever appreciate its history and that it should be kept original+

I however have no interest in owning an original looking car

I think I will put it up for sale and see what happens. I cant afford to keep it and build the car I wont so if it doesnt sell, I may have to use it as the base.

Ideally I would like to find another 69 owner who has a mish mash car as you put it who wants to upgrade.

I agree all it needs is an intake manifold, 4 barrel carb and a brakes upgrade.

It will be interesting to see how the numbers decode.

It's a good general car forum for petrolheads and maybe wortt seeing if there are any people in there that have started a project, given up and just want the final product - maybe you can do a swap out with someone like that? Thinking about it, any projects that are for sale are usually because the person can't afford to keep investing time and money, but have the genuine desire to own one, so perhaps you can speak to any of these people as you have the "end result" as it were. Make sure you enjoy this one while you have it, bet you still have a big smile on your face knowing you own it

am on the ferry at present in a force 9 gale in irish sea- forgive my typing as boat moves around!

but have you considered pro touring early vauxhall- with coke bottle looks- these cars have a lot of camaro in them and they are much cheaper to buy here and I don't know of any that have been done?
