The new headliner & sail panels have now been fitted, as has the roll bar. The main hoop is made from 45mm CDS tubing & the down tubes that pass through the parcel shelf into the boot are 42mm CDS. The foot of the main hoop is welded to angled 3mm plates, which in turn is bolted to angled 3mm sill strengthening plate that is welded to the inner sill. The floor plate has caged nuts for the hoop to bolt to. The floor plates in the boot are on top of the chassis legs & the down bars bolt to it just behind the inner arch. The down tubes are bolted to the main hoop in case it needs to all be removed at any point. I also incorporated a mounting point on the roll bar for inertia seat belts to be fitted for every day driving. A harness will be used for any "fun activities" :lol: Bit dusty in there, methinks I'm gonna have to give it a good clean when it's done :lol: :lol: ;) Cheers....Nige

I wanted some extra live gauges so I bought an oil pressure & vacuum gauge from a guy on Eurodragster & frenched them into the dash between the speedo & rev counter. I also added a few small switches to the left side of the column for things like fans, fuel pump etc Cheers.....Nige

The car's down my mates at the moment having mechanical work done (it's his '70 Mustang race car in the pic). So far the head lights, tail lights, turn indicators, horn, wipers, washers, marker lights & interior lights have been made to work. Just the factory electric windows to be fitted & that's pretty much all of the electrics sorted. The new Grant steering wheel's fitted & the new gauges added to the dash made to work. The front suspension now has it's 1400lb springs & the rear leaves have been de-cambered to drop the suspension lower. The wheel studs have been replaced with 7/16" studs as opposed to the 1/2" that Camaros normally come with. The rear axle has been "tweaked" to give toe in & camber. ;) .

The engine is now back from the machinist after being decked & balanced & is just about ready to be built up. Woo Hooo!! :lol: .

Once the car has it's engine & trans in we can adjust the final ride height front & rear to where we want it to be ie Looooow! ;)

Excuse the crap colour of the pics but my cheapo camera doesn't take red pics very well & makes everything look bleached. It's a very red, red in day light.

Off up the garage now to repair that holed hood, Cheers.......Nige

The hood is an original GM cowl induction item but for some reason someone had drilled 46 :o :o 1/8" holes in it!! Probably to pull out some dents that were in it.

The holes were carefully plug welded with the MIG welder to avoid distortion.

Then a bit of hammer & dolly work, followed by grinding/filing out the welds & hey presto!!! no more holes ;) :lol:Only 37 more holes to go!! :lol: :lol:

37 holes have now gone :lol: :lol: same principle as the previous post, weld up slowly to avoid distortion & then grind & file smooth whilst hammer/dollying the repaired areas, cheers......Nige

The front of the hood had some small holes in it. here's the procedure to lead load/body solder it.

The front of the hood was found to have a few small holes in it, so it was ground back to remove the rust & the surrounding metal tapped gently below the surface.

Here are the items you'll need to carry out a lead/bodysolder repair. A blowtorch, a stick of solder, flux, tallow (in the large tub, this is rubbed into the wooden paddles to prevent the solder sticking to it), wooden paddles to smooth the solder & a file to file the repair smooth afterwards.

The area is then brushed with flux ( the dark grey in the pic). This is then warmed up with the torch until it flows molten & is then wiped off with a cloth to "tin" the repair

The area has now been "tinned" & ready for the lead/ body solder to be applied.
