started the car up tonight and had her running for a minute or two to warm her up before backing out of the garage.

left the car running and went to shut the garage door.

noticed what looked like oil/water on the garage floor.

looked at car and water was leaking from the engine onto drive below.

looked at temp gauge in car and it was high. turned car off.

therefore double checked and it was water on the floor. checked coolant level and it was low. put more coolant in and i could see it leak out when i poured it in. Was dripping from the engine, not the radiator.

checked oil and that too was low.

is the damage repairable?

i gather its my rookie mistake of being used to modern cars and didn't check the oil or coolant enough.

what is likely to be needed to be repaired etc. The car was fine when i put it away last weekend.

many thanks gents.

Where exactly is the water leaking from?? You say it's coming from the engine but where on the engine? If the coolant is low then it will send the temperature gauge to hot, what temperatrure was it reading? I think that the oil level being low is probably nothing to do with the water leaking, it's just a coincidence, as you say, you hadn't checked it for a while. How low on the dip stick was it?? I shouldn't think that it's caused any engine damage if it was running fine before you parked it. What's the oil pressure like?.....Cheers....nige

nige its not leaking from the radiator its from the actual engine - from a seam where the top and bottom of the engine join (sorry can't be more accurate)

temp was very high when i checked

oil not empty - just below the min mark

was running fine when i parked it, started up fine when i brought it out of the garage and was idling fine on the drive before i shut it off.

dunno about oil pressure - if anyone can come have a look there will be lots of free tea/coffee and a bit of petrol £ to boot.

cheers

Can you tak a pic of where the water is coming from, or draw a diagram??? Is it coming from one of the heads or the inlet manifold?? Cheers.....Nige

i don't have a camera that i can link to the net.

its easier to see if i get under the car - near ish the middle of the front axle, infact just behind i think. maybe where the sump is.

if i had a pic i could describe it - are there links to decent pics?

cheers

Here's a pic of my hot rod engine, hopefully it should help you. Where would it be on this one? is it leaking from a core plug? A core plug is a round "disc" about 2" diameter in a recess on the side of the block.Cheers......Nige
