Post subject:  Headlamp alignment for MOT

I'll be aligning the headlamps tomorrow but am struggling to figure out what the aim requirements are. I'm looking at the VOSA doc below and also at http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_180.htm but can't seem to get a straight answer. From reading through, it seems that the centre height should be at 85cm or slightly lower. But i can't find anything on the side aiming. Any ideas / other useful docs out there? I was hoping to just get a list of numbers i.e at distance x, height should be y and beam should land at z cm away from the centre. Or something like that. Cheers!

I also found this video, even though it's for a bike, i'm sure the height part will be the same:

I am adjusting headlamp aims on a daily basis as an MOT tester. Hopefully your tester will be as accommodating but to facilitate his help, make sure your adjusters are working without force or other aggro. Maybe have a quick word before the test and explain your concerns, it can help a lot. HTH
Cheers, Martin.

Thanks Martin that does help... i installed new adjusters and springs (which is how i've ended up in this predicament) and they adjust freely and are easily accessible with a regular star shaped screwdriver (the ones that were in there were a bit tough to move and were getting rusty). I've been going to the same tester for quite a few years and he's a pretty good guy, so i'll do that and ask if he can work with me while i adjust them when he's testing it on the equipment (if it needs it, think i've got it in the ballpark now). Good to know that it can be ok to do these things!

I hate it when people have misadjusted lights, i had a hairy moment when driving back late from work the other day, it was twilight and i was driving through a winding country road down an incline on a tight corner and a vans lights completely blinded me and i nearly ended up driving into the bush. I wouldn't mind it if there were random checks made for headlight adjustment as it's such a common thing and it literally blinds you.
