Hi,

my 4th generation was running fine. I parked up one evening and couldn't get it started the next day.

Looking along the top of the block I noticed that a vacuum line had perished (or possibly been eaten by a mouse). This line was replaced but my problem was not solved.

I thought it could be the optispark (or whatever they call the distributor) as I have heard they are prone to give up when wet and it had rained a lot. I took off a plug lead, attached a plug and I have a spark. I therefore assume its not the problem.

Next guess then is the fuel pump, which was allegedly new on import.....and this is where I need help.....

I need to know if its working and if not why not.

I hope it wasn't a mouse that has munched through my electrics!

Fuses seem fine.

My battery is nearly flat now so I was going to ask if its a problem to disconect it, but this question has just been asked, so I'll wait for this to be answered on the previous thread.

The car has a low body kit, is parked nose to a wall, is an auto and will be a nightmare to get to a garage or to work under.

Cheers,

CHRIS

You haven't said whether it cranks over or not. Do you get dashboard lights up ? Do you hear the fuel injection system priming ? I would disconnected the battery rather than charging it while connected.

Sorry,

the engine turns over and I have power to the dash.

Don't think I can hear the pump prime. How long does it run for?

Is there a point where I can check if power is going to the pump without taking the tank off?

Does anything need to be reset now that the vacuum line is intact?

Cheers,

CHRIS

Hi Chris

The noise I'm talking about is on the second click of the ignition key, at the same time the dashboard lights come on. You should hear the fuel rail gain pressure, it lasts anything between 2-5 seconds. If you don't hear it, first thing I'd check would be the fuse.

If it was running ok before then the first thing I'd do is make sure the battery is good and that it's fully charged. Then the normal routine of checking for a spark (which you've done already I know but on how many plugs/leads ?). How are the rotor arm / dizzy cap looking ? They often tend to draw in moisture so worth a quick glance.

Can you smell whether you're getting fuel if you hold down the throttle and crack it over ? I had a similar problem recently and used some squirty engine start stuff straight into the throttle body.

I'm sorry I'm not an experienced mechanic but I sometimes found just offering suggestions can twig an idea from either you or someone else.

Hope you get it sorted soon, let us know how it goes.
