Quick question, in order to paint stripes or anything of the sort, can you paint that straight onto the existing layer of paint or does the entire pannel need a respray in their respective colours?

If you want to do it properly then you should repaint the whole panel.

Hi Jonny it depends on what you are going to paint and on top,if you are painting ontop of good paint it could bee masked up flatted then sprayed ,if you are spraying on top of clear you could flatt off all clearcoat spray stripes ect then claercoated over the top this will loose the edge of stripes . But if you look at the paint job on evilzee28 (aka Nige ) not clearcoated and looks the dogs doodaaas . so your best bet is to see what you are going to paint and ontop of and speak to your paint shop or bodyman .If i was a bit better on computers i would put the pics of Niges car for you as its something to see ,someone will possibley do it for you .Cheers Neil  P.S. welcome to the site .

Hi Neil, i didn't think anyone would notice i wasn't here for a while  . Well, as you asked, the house is fighting me all the way. The flat roof on the annexe has developed a leak which I can't find & I discovered that when I took an internal doorframe out there was no lintel holding up the roof. TBH though that pales into insignificance to the fact that after having had radio therapy for lung cancer, my mother in law contracted pneumonia, followed by a heart attack followed by her kidneys failing. We were told last Wednesday she wouldn't make it through the night. Thankfully, she has miraculously recovered & came home from hospital last night. That's why I've not been on here for a while as the family thing had to come first.

Anyway, back on topic, I've got a brand new stencil for the hockey stick stripe on a '69 if anyone needs one as it's surplus to my requirements.

cheers...Nige
