Car Details:69 Camaro
Just though I would share this about the '69 and probably applies to 70's cars too.
From day one the car would start fine and then suddenly there would be nothing when you turned the key to start it. Sometimes a small click from the solenoid, other times no sound at all.

Seemed to be unrelated to whether the engine was hot or cold. Checking battery wires, knocking the solenoid and rocking the car generally. It worked again eventually but never pinpointed what it was.

I stripped and checked the solenoid twice, fabricated a heat shield but still had the problem.

From a bit of googling it dawned on me it could be the circuit to the ignition switch. The 1st positive connection from the battery to the junction block on the radiator panel was dirty. The battery earth to radiator panel was also missing (not related but added anyway). I cleaned as many connections other as I could but worth checking as there must be 6+ connections to take the current from the battery to the switch, to the cut-out switch and on out to the solenoid + it draws quite a lot of current.

Now works perfectly and the solenoid was not the problem.
