hi, Just finishing a full brake overhaul and gearbox rebuild and thought an engine oil change wouldnt go amiss. I have a 350ci Goodwrench crate engine fitted. What is the recommended engine oil for this engine? thanks, Kurt |

Also have a a quick read of this regarding oil additive: http://www.classiccamaroclubuk.com/phpB ... hilit=zddp Quote: most oils nowadays have a very low content of zinc dithiophosphate (ZDDP). The zinc actually lubricated the cam & valvetrain on flat tappet cams. It's essential to have ZDDP in older flat tappet engines & especially so, when running in a new cam.
I use Valvoline Racing VR1 20W-50 motor oil. I always put a 12 fl oz bottle of Comp Cams engine break in additive into the 5 litres of oil, give it a really good shake & then use it in all subsequent oil top ups & oil changes, this way you're always keeping the engine fully protected. here's a link http://www.compcams.com/WhatsNew/NewsDe ... =833414428 |

p.s, any tips on brakes now that you've redone the system? I have sponge brake syndrome and need to do some about. I would love to do a full braer brake upgrade but just wondering if i can keep the existing setup and do something with oil / lines etc. It's the factory stuff in there, but don't really know what or how to do when it comes to brakes. |

to 78 camaro i had a leak on the master cylinder dumping the brake fluid in the booster. The master cylinder was not correct for the car so i got a new, correct one. Also replaced the booster as i didnt want to have to strip her down again should the membrane decide to give up in a few months. I already had some rear slave cylinders and flexi hoses on my shelf so they went in as well. The original lines were steel and in need of replacement. I have a brake line flaring tool so i replaced all lines. I also replaced the valve/regulator which lives underneath the master cylinder as the "seats" for the flares were damaged due to overtightened lines. The only thing i didnt touch were the front calipers. My '67 is fitted with the original 4 piston calipers and i was told they can be a bit of a nightmare to rebuild. I bought the rebuild kit anyway so i have all the bits handy should they go wrong but i thought it was better not to repair what wasnt broken. Everything is bled and seems to be working ok. No leaks. Just waiting till the weekend to change the engine oil so i can get her running and out for a test drive. That should also reveal if i made a good job of the gearbox rebuild... fingers crossed. Just PM me if you want more information on the bits i used. |
