Quick question - attempting to track down the source of my occasional electrical gremlins.
(There's a video here of what's happening if you're curious.)

I suspect there's a bad earth or a dodgy connector somewhere on the passenger side.
So I'm checking the bulbs are the correct values.
I thought I'd just whip out the lower front cluster for a good look - is there a way of doing this without removing the nose cone?
The inner screw is dead easy, the one on the outer side though is a bit more of a bugger. Can't get a ring spanner onto it.
Do I really have to remove the nose/lower valance to get access to it?

Go under the front valence, undo the square plastic panel and you can get to it from underneath. Should be able to take the bulb out without taking the lense out.

Cheers Rocky!
I managed to get the bulb out and check the contacts - all looking nice and clean.

Which means I'm no further forward on what's causing my indicator issues.

Looking at the circuit diagram in the Haynes Book of Lies, and some discussion with my Dad (who knows a little bit about electrics), he reckons it's a high resistance joint somewhere in the indicator switch.

Does this make sense to anyone?

I take it the right bulb is in it sometimes people try and wedge the wrong bulb in. What is happening to the indicators?

Yeah the bulbs are all attached properly - I spotted that the lugs on the bulb had one side higher than the other.
If you have a look at this video - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1475528/IROCindicator.avi - you'll see what's going on.

If it's ontly the indicators you are having issues with, it might the relays are a bit knakered or something? maybe try swapping them out?

Are you using any LED lights?

Cheers,

Ray

The only LEDs I'm running are in the number plate lights, and it was misbehaving before I fitted those. New relay arrived yesterday and I'm going to drop it in tonight. New battery was bought yesterday, but the tray's so rotten I daren't move the old one!
So it's a good thing the new one arrives today and she's off to see a man with a welding torch next week!

As far as batteries go, I was looking at one of these: http://www.tayna.co.uk/75-60-Enduroline ... P8471.html mainly because I couldn't find any other options online in the UK.
Might be worth ringing the usual UK US parts places though.
I rang my local battery place, and they had the Numax equivalent on the shelf, for about £1.50 less. I'd rather buy locally, and hey, they're cheaper too! And of course, I can collect it the same day.
The battery is the same as what's fitted to a Vauxhall Sintra, it turns out, so that'll save you some explaining when you're ringing around!
I started saying it was for an '88 Camaro and got nowhere (even with the ACDelco number off the battery that's fitted) but as soon as I said it's the same as the Sintra battery he knew exactly what it was.

Next stop, if neither the flasher or the battery sort it out, will be a new indicator switch unit.

We do original AC delco ones but are a little more than the cheaper makes.
