Flipping typical... ordered a new U joint from NPD for the rear yoke on the propshaft. Part no 4635-4 from NPD which is a Federal Mogul #369 but the end caps are too small by a few millimetres so its not the correct part - it rattles in the yoke which clearly is not correct.

Even though the parts box lists the applications as Ford Mustang, Explorer and Ranger, the Federal Mogul website shows part#369 as fitting Camaros from 1967 to 1992.... ! So technically the part is the correct part.......

So the only conclusion is that I have propshaft from a different vehicle that has a larger U joint than a standard Camaro? I assume this would also mean that the yoke on the differential is different as well, but haven't checked that yet.

I'll measure the yoke and the old U joint and then see if I can find something to fit via one of the UK propshaft specialists.
if anyone has any other ideas as to what might have changed or how to solve the problem then I'd be happy to hear, cheers

Just got my mechanic to inspect the old U joint (one that was held in by the plastic pins, ex factory, etc) and theres a chevy badge one side with 26.4 and on the other side 6987D so hopefully that will mean something to those who know !! Off for a quick Google and see what I can find.....

Useful Lesson - do not throw anything away until you know the new part fits

I know that when my propshaft was shortened to fit the new 5 speed, they changed the UJ for a bigger one... no idea what size or part number it may be though..

Thanks Chevy-stu thats really useful info !

The replacement UJ is held in by what the americans call snaprings. Do they locate in the groove thats in the yoke or do they just wedge themselves in the yoke and stay put? I always thought they should locate and be retained in a groove like circlips?

Someone must have replaced one and knows the answer ??
