So here's an interesting one! When i move the car forward or backward (pushing it of course, in neutral with emergency brake off) it rolls a couple of feet or so then gets really hard to move (no, i'm not on a hill ) and i literally have to put my leg against the wall to get enough force to move it and then i hear a dull clunk and then it starts to move again (then of course i run out of room in the garage). This clunk seems to be in the same place as if you move it to the front and back of the garage it will do it in the same place and once when i pushed it out into the drive it did the same after a small distance. Any idea what on earth this could be coming from / causing this? the sound comes from the rear half of the car. Many thanks! Ray |

Ok so i jacked up by the rear diff and spun the wheels loads back and forth (i swear i did this when i was 4 on toy cars. some thigns don't change) and didn't hear the clunk at all. Seemed to get a little bit harder to turn the wheel at some points, could this maybe just the fluid levels not having ciruclated for a while or something? also worked out the rear end has a ratio of about 3.25. is this about where it should be? Cheers! ray |

Hi Ray, the 3.25's are a great allround gear for street use, unless you want to spend loads of money on fuel or go drag racing. Sometimes witht he Posi the clutches tend to "stick" together & will produce a clunking noise, normally at low speeds when cornering or reversing. You can get an additive from Hausers that should cure this, I had to do it with mine because it had been standing for so long hthCheers! ray cheers...Nige ps how's the car coming along any updates?? |

Thanks Nige, Good tip on the fluid! sorry to ask such as silly question then , but if i remove the diff cover, will the fluid spill out? i did wonder how you top it up or check fluid levels. Car is coming so slowly. just at the point where i'm respraying a few parts that have been chipped from panel aligment etc and the door (wasn't straight) so gota do that, the cowel, finish the interior (headliner and trim parts) install windows, check and maks sure light wiring is correct (new harness, may need modifying for MOT) install front n rear bumpers, instlal new shocks (airs have massive leak so going in the bin), install exhaust (have over axle pipes and new headers, so evertyhitng inebtween those (x pipe likely) then cut n polish. much shorter list than last year Are we gonna see you at any meets anytime? santa pod or something? Cheers! Ray |

Quote: Thanks Nige,
There's a threaded, internal square plug on the side of the diff casing, undo it & top up from there until oil runs out. If it's already full you'll need to drain some out, I pulled it out with a screwdriver , as I didn't want to break the diff cover seal again hthGood tip on the fluid! sorry to ask such as silly question then , but if i remove the diff cover, will the fluid spill out? i did wonder how you top it up or check fluid levels. cheers...Nige |
