Car Details:1986 Camaro, bought into Spain by me in 1993.
305 replaced by a 355, 750 Demon carb, RPM AirGap intake, Brodix heads, Hedman Hedders, 3" Flowmaster exhaust.
Wheels are Summit aluminium 5 spokes, tyres are 245 rear 225 front BF Goodrich.
B/M transmission, battery relocated to the rear, GoodMark 4" cowl steel hood.
Location:Spain East Coast
It's a real bugger, one day it just started to close down real tight.
I have done the credit card trick and it worked once...
The choke idle adjustment is behind the electric choke pod and is screwed from below..2 :lolno:
So to adjust I have remove the pod and replace after every turn of the screw.
Yesterday after opening the throttle several times I loaded
the intake with fuel, when the car cranked it nearly blew the exhast off... :x

Here in Spain the choke is rarely set and if set comes off
very quickly.
Somewhere I have another choke pod......somewhere...

Laid up today with a real nasty headache.
...but I kept thinking about the choke flap position.
It"s not regulated by the choke pod,
it's the rod connecting them.
It has a dogleg shape and can be tweaked to make it
longer or shorter.
So tomorrow it's coming off for some tweaking to make it a little longer.... :clap:

Sorry to hear about the bad headache, looks like life's odd way of giving you time to think through some other options. Let's hope sorting the rod will take care of the choke issue :thumbup:

I've tweaked the rod it had to be shorter.
When you do the choke and start the car you´re stuffed until it all cools down.......
then the day warms up...... :lolno:
Anyhow it seems to be working, tomorrow morning I´ll check it out again.

My headache cure......a hot bowl of Heinz tomato soup followed by a milky coffee......
works every time but yesterday I had to wait until the evening to cure myself. :thumbup:

It appears that something is still awry. I took my new found wisdom to the car yesterday and waiting for a good 30 seconds for the electric fuel pump to be on, then pumped the pedal a few times slowly, then waited a few seconds, then tried to start the car. Repeated that and it took a good 3 attempts for it start.

Ok, maybe because it hadn't been started in a while, was the reason. I drove it out of the garage and let it run for a couple of minutes then switched it off. About 5 hours later went to start it, thinking that it would start straight up. Let the electric fuel pump run for about 20 seconds, pushed the gas pedal a couple of times, waited a few seconds, then tried to start it and it just cranked without starting. Took 3 attempts to start it.

Not sure what's going on there. Idles nicely once started. Concerned about wearing the starter out and also if i'm out and about, how long the battery will last with all that cranking.

Lowered ,mild body mods,400 cu in SBC engine, Muncie 4speed, 10 bolt posi axle,disc front drum rear.
68 firebird convertible ( long term project) Stock resto/mod style ,400 pontiac th350
If you are running a Holley it may be worth removing the sight plugs on the fuel bowls to check the level, if it is low you will have the sort of problems mentioned.

Good point, should have mentioned the setup! It's an Edelbrock carb (can't remember the model off of the top of my head) sitting on an Edelbrock 1501 intake.

If i remember right, it always started almost straight away the few times i had started it over the years. Not much has changed since then, apart from running new stainless fuel tubing, new hose, and adding a filter and pressure regulator in. Annoyingly i did drop the regulator and it reads 2.5psi out, maybe i should replace that incase the reading is incorrect. It didn't have a reg. before, it's a Holley one from Real Steel.

Edelbrock carbs have a reputation for reliability and less issues than Holley, but I have never run any so can't speak from personal experience .
I tend to avoid electric pumps for street driven machines because they are less bullet-proof than the regular mechanical pumps which will run for a zillion miles with little fuss...
Sounds to me like your fuel pressure could be too low, from memory it would be 4 or 5 on a Holley, you don't want too high pressure as it could cause flooding and even be dangerous ( engine bay fires )
Hope this helps ...bye the way if the car is not run often modern fuels go stale, maybe fresh fuel and an additive that helps it stay fresh . I run Sta-bil fuel stabilizer in my cars and bikes ( available on ebay )

2.5 psi sounds too low, as said needs to be around 5 for an Edelbrock carb.

Mine¨giving me the run around again too.
Start it up and it´ll run fine.....for seconds then it´ll misfire, fart and splutter,
I pedal the throttle to keep it alive and slowly it´ll come around and run like nothing happened.

My fuel pressure gauge shows the pressure fluctuates, bouncy needle,
so I´m going install a pressure regulator.

I WANT FUEL INJECTION..... :D
