Interestingly, it seems to be "normal".
This person noted the same, for a minute i thought i was reading a post of mine as he even has the same name:
http://www.thirdgen.org/forums/electron ... drops.html

Seems as though it's common and alternator related during high load, but appears to be not causing harm. Down the line if i get the chance, i may upgrade the alternator to a 140amp one. For now.. looks like it can be left as is.

There are quite a few posts along the same lines:

I'll still do the headlight relay upgrade for good measure to shorten the pathing. I have long weekends for the rest of the month as i haven't used all of my holiday up for the year, so that will help with getting things done!

With the engine running set your voltmeter to read AC voltage. Connect the positive to the alternator output and the negative to ground. If you get a reading over 2 volts, you have a bad diode in the alternator. Feeding a battery AC will fry it real fast.

Thanks Neil, that's a good idea - i'll give that a try on Friday. Just as i said things seem to be ok, this morning on the way into the car park, i go down several flights so i'm braking (steep so have to go slow and try and not scrape) the engine cut out. I turned the key and fired back up, but the 'service engine light' came on and stayed on. I went down the next flight and it happened again (made sure clutch was depressed to be sure i didn't stall it) and it cut out again. Started it up again and this time the service engine light didn't come on. Went down the final flight and gave it a little rev and then parked and it didn't stall. Not sure what happened there :/

I've got a long weekend coming up so can do the ac volt test, swap out the fuel filter, test the fuel (as advised in one of the other topics) etc.
