Ok, found this brown wire coming out from the engine side of the fuse box(the one with the blue terminal crimp). Its voltage changes when i move the switch for the wiper. The rest of the loom i think is from ac. I bunched them up to keep them out of the way. No idea what the brown wire should connect to?

I think that's for the ejector seat actuation relay... GM fired these to certain models in the 70's to counteract communism. So if a goddam hippy commie happen to not see your confederate flag in the rear window whilst hitch hiking through Alabama, you can offer him a ride and eject him through the T tops into the local creek... Definitely connect it back up.

Well, interestingly enough that brown wire was actually an output not an input. The whole time i was testing, i had turned the key clockwise. Now, the ignition barrel doesn't click when you move from ACC to RUN, and i didn't want to turn it too much and start the car, so i think i may have been in ACC position. According to the diagram, that circuit is only active when in RUN or ACC 2 (which is when you put the key in an turn it anticlockwise). So i unplugged the brown wire, turned the key anticlockwise and the wipers worked. I will need to try them with the car running, just to be sure. Washer motor still doesn't work, even with the wipers wiping, so i'm going to get a unit as Flakmonkey suggested. I will eventually fix / replace the washer to have it work as it's supposed to, but for now, this will be a good backup solution.

Thanks for the info! I won't plan for an MOT anytime soon then. I found that Rockauto sell the washer pump unit, ranging from $15 for $65. There is an AC Delco one for a little under £50, with shipping it's about £70. Still have to transfer the delay circuits over which is annoying, especially for that price. May as well get the $15 one. Which one did you get, that lasted all of 3 weeks?

Good idea about the separate pump! I guess you would take the +12v that goes into the stock pump and use that as the +12v for the standalone pump? Any recommendations on what type to get? Cheers!

Something like this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12-Volt-Unive ... SwNSxU4Xtz
Ray, one of those will work just fine. Use the original 2 connections to the washer pump and extend them.

That's great, thank you! I was thinking over the weekend how great it is when people here help out. Sometimes you dig yourself into a ditch and there doesn't seem to be a solution, and if there is, it's expensive and takes a long time. Then someone comes along with an idea and suddenly it lifts the burden off and you realise there are really simple and effective solutions out there. Makes a huge difference to a project along with the motivation for it. This is just one example (of many!) where this has happened, so wanted to mention how helpful everyone really is. It's often not just the problem it solves, but changes your outlook on a project and lifts your mood!

Installed and tested, works great! Pretty powerful little motor for £5. Shoots washer fluid past the back of the car. Had to prime the line as at first it wasn't picking up any fluid from the bottle, partly not helped by the filter being a bit clogged. Used a squirty bottle to get fluid into the intake line and then it worked. I got a 3way t with a non return valve but it seems to be faulty. No fluid would come out and the motor would start to strain. I took it off and tried blowing air through the centre piece and it would just build up pressure and close itself. Which is kind of the opposite of what it should do (no pressure = closed, pressure = open). Tried using different points of the t as input / output but at best it would only output through 1 point, so a bit pointless. Not sure what's going on with that. So sorted, but not quite.
