So the rear spacers I bought also had metric 12 mm studs so they're the same all round now..
lol, I had that problem - luckily most european cars have the same 12mm x 1.5 stud size, so getting new wheel nuts was not a problem :)

Once again, thanks guys. The only things is what does 5" backspace mean in ET ? is it ET10, 12, 15, etc. ?

Mark68 - did u get your kore3 kit direct from the states or did u purchase it through a UK company ? have u also changed to rack and pinion steering, if so what kit are u using ? I think your right about the max width at the back of 9", I don't really want to mini tub but I do want to put 18" rims all round. I would like a staggered set up but may have to settle for all square and fit slightly wider tyres out back for that "fat" look.

backspace is measurable from the inside lip of the wheel to the mounting face.. offset is the difference from the imaginary centre of the wheel width to the mounting face

So an 8x18 wide wheel with 4 inch backspace will have 0 offset..
8x18 wheel with 5 inch backspace will be about 25mm offset ( 1 inch)

make sense ?

I bought direct from Kore3, as said, Tobin is a great guy.

As for rack and pinion on the First Gens? I would not go that route, unless you are getting a new aftermarket subframe. On stock frames, the rack and pinion does not work well. I stuck with a steering box (you can get very good fast ratio boxes).

Even if you mini tub the rear, you will still need to mount the leafsprings inboard slightly (DS&E do offset shackles) to get anything wider than a 9" wheel.

I don't want to mini tub so will go for a 8x18 set up. I've had a look at the kore3 website and i'm very tempted, lol. Hope the £ against the $ gets better, the way things are going i think it will.

Mark68, i'm interested in why the rack and pinion on a stock subframe doesn't work so well, NPD sell a r&p set up called steeroids which looks good.

I would suggest you look at Flaming River mini rack systems in US and tie the lot to existing set-up

I have had some experiences with this setup and supporting ps systems

I still get confused though as Cragar do 8" wheels with 4" backspace and negative 13mm offset. That made my brain hurt a little.

Careful about tubbing with the "new" law about, worst case if it's enforced, you may have to detub!! :cry:

Just did a bit of research, forget the steeroids kit, apparently there are bump steer issues with it. However, unisteer do a straight bolt on kit which keeps the 1st gen geometry and I couldn't find any negative feedback.

Yeah, exchange rate is pants at the moment, when I got my brakes, it was quite good - just have to be patient! :)

Bump steer is one of the main problems, I to was looking at the unisteer system too, but I spoke to a guy on a US forum who had one on his car - said it was not good, think he was glad that the previous owner had spent the money installing it and not him lol

Also, another thing that comes up with racks: most racks are front steer, whereas the steering box/camaro setup is rear steer (I think this creates problems too), if you google it on first gen camaro's then you should get some info on it.

Get an 3rd Gen IROC/Z28 box - usually listed as Camaro with heavy duty/sport suspension, it's a fast ratio box, and bolts right in - plus you retain your original idler arm. I personally have not done this, but it's supposed to work well, and a lot cheaper! again, plenty of info if you google it.
