So tonight I stopped to fill the car up with petrol. Well just the tank, not literally the car.
Anyway, getting back in to her, went to turn her over and there was nothing - not a starter, nothing, just a clicking from a relay (I guess) on the passenger side.

Anyway, after that wonderful cure all of lifting the bonnet, checking that nothing's loose on the dizzy or coil, she started again.

I had to stop off somewhere on the way home, and when I got in to start her again, this time she lurched forward a couple of inches after starting, despite the transmission being in Park.

I'm going to have a guess at it being a trans switch/solenoid issue.
Any other theories?

solenoid I'd say. If it does it again, whack the starter with a broom handle and see if it works. Had this with a Stag for many years :)

Solenoid as in trans solenoid or the starter?
The starter is barely a year old.

Car Details:1986 Camaro, bought into Spain by me in 1993.
305 replaced by a 355, 750 Demon carb, RPM AirGap intake, Brodix heads, Hedman Hedders, 3" Flowmaster exhaust.
Wheels are Summit aluminium 5 spokes, tyres are 245 rear 225 front BF Goodrich.
B/M transmission, battery relocated to the rear, GoodMark 4" cowl steel hood.
Location:Spain East Coast
If it moved while in park it could be the neutral switch on the shifter plate.
I had that at Barcelona airport, had to remove the centre console top and short out the neutral start switch wires.

Well, she's refusing to play again.
Need to pick up some fibreglass resin for a project, jumped in and.... nothing.
All the dials, seatbelt warning tone, SES light etc. come on as they're meant to, but turn the key further to start and she just dies.
Followed by the clicking from a relay on the passenger side.
Interestingly, with the door open, it takes a little moment for the interior light to come back on and my radio to play it's "You've left the faceplate on" beeps.

So she's completely immobile and stuck in my garage for the moment. Arse!

Can you try hooking up a battery charger to it... one of the ones that plugs into the wall, leave it for an hour or so and while still plugged in, try starting it?

I should've said - that was my first thought. Came up as fully charged inside 2 minutes, so that's fine. The alternator and battery have both been replaced inside the last couple of years.
My gut's saying it's an earthing issue or the starter. Tried turning her over with the headlights on, and they just died when I turned the key all the way - I can't remember if they're meant to do that or not?

Well, thanks to a sh!t negative connection at the battery (the clamps on the lead were quite loose as it turned out) things are solved.
Just need to go and find a new bolt to the battery though. Looks like the last person to put it in cross threaded it and destroyed the thread on the bolt and now it won't tighten...

And, after visiting 4 places (inc. a Vauxhall dealership who, I was told, use the same battery on the Zafira or something) I finally found a UNC bolt.
From a bloke called Nick, in a lock up down an alley, where he fixes motorbikes. Proper garage, piles of stuff everywhere. :D
Nice guy, didn't want any cash either.
All sorted!

Ah that's some good news, glad to hear that you've managed to get it sorted! All that because of a loose bolt, mad eh! Sounds like a top bloke, always good when you find people like that, willing to help out for nothing in return.
