Just wondering if anyone is familiar with the difference between Upol Top Stop, Top Stop Gold, Liquid Gold and Dolphin Glaze?

It's getting quite annoying trying to work out the difference as they all seem to be final stage fillers. I thought that stoppers and knifing puttys were the same and served to stop moisture (ideal if you have a welded area with a tiny hole you didnt spot) and give a really smooth surface. The Top Stop series doesn't mention putty only the liquid gold and dolphin glaze mention that. None mention moisture resistance etc, all mention they are very smooth, so don't really know why there's 4 products to choose from, when all appear to serve the main purpose :think: Advise / thoughts / experience much appreciated :thumbup:

Hi Ray :thumbup: you will probably find that they are all just a fine filler to fill in scratches and pinholes on catty after priming ( but i,ve not read info on them )if you,r going over welding or bare steel apoxy primer is a good bet .If your not using lead (body solder )over your repair what i tend to use as a bit of a safe gaurd i use Bridging Filler wnich is a fiberglass based filler ,hope this helps Cheers Neil .P.S. to be used under catty only U Pol also do the same product (different name )

I use or have used them all they are more final stage fillers, I prefer the Topstop gold ideal for laying out a complete panel nearly flat, If you use your normal filler to get say a roof nearly flat you can use this to put a very thin but smooth coat over the whole roof without getting any pin holes or dragging,
The liquid gold is basically the new dolphin glaze only used for small touch up or pin holes, I only really use this for bikes to smooth off welds on frames these 2 tend to dry too quickly to work large panels etc.

Sorry for the late reply, have been out of the country all week.

I've got some fibreglass repair paste (with glass strands in) so i'll use that where there were welds, I need to also skim that door, so i'll get some topstop in that case as the liquid gold would not last that much of a spread from what you say Rocky.

Or i may get lucky and find a door at Essex :D

Personally I like Upol's Fantastic filler.... as a final touch. Great stuff. Anything that doesnt sort, Lechler Green-Ti hi-build will.... :thumbup:

Ah yes i remember coming across the Fantastic stuff. Wasn't sure where it fitted into their line up so wasn't sure what type of application it was meant for. I must say they do have a rather broad line up making it hard to know what products to use. Would be good if they could narrow them down or have a chart that helps understand their different uses.

I've used EasyLite so far and have been really happy with that. Minimal pinholes, good spreading, good sanding, tough etc. Does benefit from a finishing putty ontop. I also used Easy 1 (one) when EasyLite was out of stock once and that was horrible. Bad spreading, tonnes of pinholes etc. I also used Metallic once, that was really good - very tough, good spreading, but HARD to sand. When i had to strip down the fender after putting it on, it was the one that wanted to come off with the biggest fight :lol: Now you can see why i got confused with TopStop, TopStop gold etc as the EasyLite proved to be really good!
