Post subject: | EuroSpec and alarms |
Now I've always questioned the fact I've got 2 keys but no fob to pop tghe doors, but as I've seen a few 4th gen Eurospec cars around all using the key to lock and unlock the doors I've never been worried about it. Now a second person has told me that ALL the Eurospec cars were fitted with a Thatcham alarm. So I'm now thinking what happens when I take the battery off to start work on the car in a couple of weeks? Put it back on to an immobilised car that won't even let me in maybe? Anyone got any info as to whether there is an alarm on all the UK cars and if so where do I look to see if its on mine? |

Well my Euro spec comes with the fob and 2 keys, and when i rung for insurance they said the factory alarm that I have is indeed a thacham 1. My siren and alarm hub is above around the front area behind the lights, hope this helps |

Thanks Luke. Looks like there's nothing there on ours at all. All I can see is the horns on the passenger side and nothing really on the other. I'm guessing yours is between either the back of the headlight and the battery or the back of the headlight and the fusebox? Sigma Alarm? I preume it has got a tell-tale flashing LED in the little panel near the ashtray that has the headlamp adjuster in it too? Ours has nothing there at all. I talked to a couple of people yesterday who said they'd seen Eurospec cars without an alarm, but I'm still a bit panicky about taking the battery off just in case. Obviously Bauer Millett sold them as new here, but have spoken to them and they say there's nothing on the build/conversion sheet to say either way. All I need is the car sat immobilised on the driveway and no way of disabling the alarm/immobiliser. |

Yeah its on the passanger side right above the horn, couldn't tell you what make exactly, from what I recall its 'auto...' i think??? I saw your post on piston heads too, looks like there are some cars with the alarms as extra and some not. My car was origionally from down london somewhere. I think you'll be of to take the battery off in that case, good luck |

I was always told mine was a northern car originally supplied by BM. The history the VIN number brings up says different and it looks like it was probably supplied by Frosts in Shoreham. They're still a Vauxhall VXR dealer and so maybe someone there might know a bit more. BM service dept say that most of the retrofitted alarms that were on the GM stuff from around that time would come back on in the state which the power was removed anyway so it "should be safe"!!!!! If not I guess I'm in for a lot of tracing wiring! |

A quick point but if you bought a fob would that help? They are very cheap to buy (about £10 to £20 at a guess on ebay) and are very easy to synchronise to your car. You don't have to give any special serial numbers etc the car does it all. Let me know if you want to know how to synchronise as I have done it a few times. That way if you remove the battery you could use the fob (and resynchronise it if applicable). Mine's a US spec one and the immobiliser signal is in the key I believe (a little black bit that sicks out on the side). I'm not sure I've helped at all but thought I would comment. |
