Hi Hi,

Drove down from Aberdeen to Anglesey (450Miles) on Wednesday, a grindy whistley noise from under the hood got progressively worse. I suspected the tensioner pulley.

Anyway I removed the belt (6PK1970) and found that the bearing on the freewheeling shaft of the compresser had completely broken up.
As the gas needed topping up in the A/C i decided to re-belt the car by-passing the A/C compressor.

Here's a tip if anybody out there has a similar problem or wants to bypass the a/c compressor

a 6PK1750 does the job perfectly

3.4 V6 1995

We should assume the 6PK1750 is a fan/auxiliary belt then ?

When I bought my 3.4 V6 Firebird it also had the compressor bypassed because of a noisy bearing but I bought a replacement compressor and a new bearing to get it sorted out. I never fitted it so if you want the compressor (I bought it from a guy on here) and the new bearing to get yours sorted, I'd sell at cost - £75.
