Just to let you all know of my nightmare day trying to fit new speakers to my 98 convertable...

Don't do it....

I tried to upgrade my speakers, did my research and found that it was best if they were 2 ohm etc etc and decided on some Infinity Kappa speakers that was recommended on an american Z28 forum... I bought the best Kappa 6.5" ones I could find.

A few weeks ago I tried to put them in the front doors only to find that once you have the door panel off that the stock speakers fit into a special mount and have hexagonal shaped speakers rather than round and the size of the nuts that holds them within a frame is not a normal size and do not undo. The standrad 6.5" speaker doesn't fit. So I decided well they will have to go in the rear then. (I don't know what option you have to upgrade them...)

Yesterday, I managed to get the rear child seat out together with the rear side panels. I changed the connectors and managed to replace then with the new ones. They sounded better than the stock ones and was happy until I continued to put the roof fully down to find out that the rear magnet of the speakers are too large and the speakers are now completely mangled....The convertable roof arm couldn't go all the way back.. How depressing is that...So out they had to come. I have just packed away all my tools only to have to get them all out again to re-install the original speakers to which I have now decided sound excellent.

So if you want to upgrade you have to buy 6.5" HEXAGONAL speakers that are slim which I believe only leaves the stock ones....

By the way it was supposed to be a family day yesterday not a day for me tinkering on the car so the wife wasn't too happy. I thought it would only take 5 minutes..

to save weight... wow that's impressive. I take it you don't use the car to drive back & forth to work..

The other benefit you have is you don't have the joy of listening to Terrry Wogan in the morning as the Radio's only seem to pick up Radio 2 being US... :P

The main positive side is I got the whole stereo upgrade thing off my mind. You know how once it gets in there like with any thought you can't rest until its been tried (fitting a supercharger has always been there also but never more than just a smiling thought)..

cheers H
