The Clutch on my Lt1 z28 (ie V8) has a nasty judder. I'm fairly used to it, but as I'm heading over the US I wondered if should buy the parts whilst there?
So
- what do I actually need. can I just get a kit?
- will I save much?
- does the judder suggest I will need to reface the fly wheel
- how big/difficult a job is it? I've done Mini, old Mgs and 70s Alfa before, so I should be up the task?

Hi Jimbo, i just did the clutch on your old car, it has a funny whining noise under load at low RPM and did indeed judder a small amount if i let it out too slowly in addition to biting very high on the pedal. I got a kit from rock auto which was a street/performance clutch and also replaced the standard flywheel with a refaced slp one i picked up from the bay cheap(cost me about £50 to have the face machined). the clutch was a dual material job which was normal looking on one face and a bronze sandy looking affair on the other.
I paid a friend to fit it who said it was a straightforward job and the car feels exactly the same with the new stuff fitted as it did with the old parts! if i let it out too lsowly there is still judder so having a refaced flywheel made no difference whatsoever , if you want to cobble something to gether i now have standard flywheel, 3 different clutch plates, a standard pressure plate that is good and also an "uprated" SLP pressure plate which looks exactly the same as the LT4ones having slightly beefier arms. if you are considering bring it all back from the usa there is a lot of weight there to fit in your luggage. Let me know if any of the bits i have are of any use or if you want to have a try of it to compare it to your current one
