I'm sure this is a common question, but what the widest rear tyres I can fit to my 95's stock 16" wheels ? I'm currently running Cooper 245 55 x 16's (I think) that are getting past their sell by date. Any tyre brands recommended ? |

Good luck matey, been there done all that. Northants tyres has Kuhmos 255s at 200 quid each plus vat plus shipping. Bugger that. maybe some part worns off Ebay but youre mixing then more than likely. Or if you go down to 225, bearing in mind the stock size was 235, the world opens up and you can get any make you want pretty much. 90 odd quid a piece too. Functionally day to day the skinny ones will grip better in the wet and track better. If you can live with the look, most would never notice. All down to preference, but as a daily driver i know what im doing next, and if i burn through a few rears ill live with myself. |

It thought standard size was 245/50/16, same as the 16" 3rd gen wheels. if so: http://www.camskill.co.uk/m62b0s576p116 ... se%3A_73dB or get some 17" wheels, opens up the options massively. |

Sorry my goof, they are 245 50 x 16's. Dont think I'll bother then, as my 95 is a semi daily. I picked up a set of 2000 (?) later 10 spokes that have 235 55 x 16's so may just use them as they are rather than a big outlay. Id think about 17's or 18's (BMW / Vette ?) but I live in speed hump / pot hole city |

I gaven't got a 4th Gen but I think the M3 (3 series) rims go straight on. Not sure which 3 series tho, E36 or E46. Couple of others here have definately done it. (Maudy ?) |

I ran E46 18 inch M3 wheels (8 inch fronts and 9 inch rears) for a few years, then ran with 9 inch (rear M3) on the front too...more aggressive stance. I got a set with tyres for around the 350 -400 mark, part worn . Any bmw wheels will work but check offset is not larger (more positive) than about +24 with a 9J ( 9 inch wide) wheel otherwise the rear stick out and catch the arches if you are lowered. |

Thanks for ya help Maudy. I'll prob use what I've got, but keep an eye out for 17" BMW wheels. Is it only the M3's that had wider rears ? As I've now sold my 96 Caprice, so will be keeping my 95 Z28, its time to do all those odds n sods that also need sorting. A list of (daft) questions to follow . . . . |

Wheels for 5 series and 7 series BMW in 17 or 18 will work and you can get staggered sets with wider rears from sport models. I have a set in reserve for my 1st gen 17 with the wider rear rim... Ebay is your friend |
