Evening chaps Does ayone know for sure the standard exhaust diameter for my 98 (LS1)? I am about to order an exhaust cut off valve and wondered which one to ask for. Also, spinnybits (posts here occasionally) would like to know the answer to the above question only for his 97 TA (LT1)? We have been under the cars and measured roughly and it seems it could be 3", but I'm reading elsewhere that it could be either that, 2.5" or even 2.75". Cheers, Ferdi |

How are you measuring, with a rule or calipers ? You´ll never eyeball it with a rule so............ Circumference = Pi x Diameter. 3" x 3.142 = 9.426", circumference.....so measure the circumference. 2.5" x 3,142 = 7.855" 2.75" x 3.142 = 8.64" |

Hehe That's the look I'm after. Theers for the Maths reminder, bought some calipers and shall measure at the weekend. Anyone fitted an electronic cut off to the exhaust? Thinking pre-cat. I'll tell everyone it is for the perfomance increase but its really for the noise |

I've got twin electric cutouts on mine... y pipe and units direct from a US companycalled Badlanz. Had them built intothenew exhaust about 4 or more years ago. worked fine for a while then one stripped the gears. Badlanz did replace it for free, but I had to post broken one back.then one motor went atabout 12 months, free replacement again.. the bolts constantly work loose on the flap and control rod and need tightening at least annually.. I've got one removed atthemoment as one flap broke in half at Xmas... |

Cheers for that, do you notice any difference in throttle response? Sounds like you haven't had much luck with yours. I've been speaking to this fella on ebay, if his prompt communication is anything to go by it seems like a legit product. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350803970129? ... 1423.l2649 Just need to know what size pipe but I'll put some calipers against it this weekend. Cheers! |

It definately increaes power. I had my car dyno'd on a rolling road, and first time it showed nearly 20hp more with the valves open, and second time, after the engine rebuild a little over 5hp more. The main thing is the noise of course I think by the nature of cutout valves, they sit in a very dirty, exposed vibration prone part of the the car, so failure in my case wasn't too suprising. QTP was one of the better makes I've heard, but I bought the Badlanz as they had good reviews but were a little cheaper. There was another type with a sliding valve rather ran rotating called 'Dougs' that looks like it might be more reliable and seal better.. |
