Evening chaps On the way back from Billing today, the old girl threw the EML light. I plugged the trusty code reader in, and it told me P1404 EGR Valve Closed Pintle Position Now, am i looking at a replacement EGR valve or is there a way of cleaning it with WD/Carb Cleaner? My brief research this evening tells me that if I upgrade to an LS6 intake i can get more ponies and negate the need for an EGR. Any advice is welcome guys. Photos from Billing to follow post haste! Cheers, Ferdi |

Just put the old girl away in the garage for the week and the light has gone off! Do I have a magical car or has the stuck EGR somehow released itself? ill plug the code reader in tomorrow eve, see if the code is historical now or still apparent. Swear the thing has its own personality sometimes |

LS6 intake seems the the way to go. For '01-'02 engines, the LS6 intake was used on LS1 F-bodies and the EGR system was eliminated. Seemingly 98 Z28 Camaros had a EGR valve recall as the the EGR valve will ultimately not function properly due to the carbon buildup and will either remain closed or open. Giving it a right good clean has worked for some people. Anywhere you read owners are junking them. In saying that ferdi unplugging the battery and resetting the ECU can put out the Check engine light if its a temporary issue. |

I have an egr from my 99 camaro. If you have an issue again you can have it cheap. Ask a breaker how much they want, might want to charge you the earth....if not try a good bit of carb cleaner on yours. 99-2000 are known for carbon and oil build up so could have got stuck. You could get and LS6 intake. Had 3 through my hands for friends. Few mods to do re coolant pipes under the intake but its possible and few extra horses are always good. You need to tune the car to not have the EGR anymore otherwise the EML light will always be on. |

Great stuff guys, thanks. Any idea where I may get an ls6 intake? Also, as the light has "turned itself off", does this mean problem is (more than likely temporarily) solved? Is the egr a bugger to remove/clean? |

one botlt (10mm i think) on top of intake and 2 (8 mm angain I think) on the manifold. What you dont loose the gasket. See how dirty it is. Some have a tube on that goes into the intake, I cut mine off as its a restriction. See how it goes before replacing it all. I usually have more luck on HSV org as they have LS6 intakes floating around. usually £100 upwards really. Just needs a bit of work to fit. |
