Afternoon all

I am bored on gardening leave at the moment and am sprucing up the interior a bit, painting the door handle surrounds and a few other minor trim pieces gloss black to match my dash panels.

My question is, has anyone ever removed the top piece of the centre console on the A4? i have removed the screws under the storage box/armrest, but there seems to be some resistance at the top end (question mark in the pic below) although I cannot find any additional screws. This is of course al academic as I:

1) Have no idea how I am going to get the piece off past the shifter knob
2) How big a tale of woe will ensue by removing the piece and then trying to match up the mechanism with the red bar that moves with the shifter to indicate gear positon

Excuse the smartphone-altered pic:

Anyone any ideas?

Cheers,

Ferdi

The surround for your heater controls (that you drew your question mark on) pulls straight off. Then you can remove the heater control panel and get to see the inside from there.
Worth a shot? Its a 2 minute job.

Cheers mate

I pulled it off to paint it a while back, didnt think to do it this time, need to give myself a slap sometimes.

lord only knows how the shifter knob is going to go through the smaller gap.

I might just not bother

Pull the shifter all the way down and then look in the front of it. There should be a little staple clip thing. Just pull it out and pull the knob up.
