Post subject: | Service recommendations |
Hi all, I'd like hear some recommendations for places to get my Camaro serviced. I live in Derby and have some American specialist within easy reach in the midlands. I'll list those I know of below: Oldcott Motors in Stoke on Trent West Midland American Vehicles Ltd near Cannock, Staffs American Auto Centre in Minworth, Sutton Coldfield They're all roughly the same distance from me (give or take). Has anyone used any of these? If so, I'd be very interested in your opinions and experiences. I'd also be interested to hear about other places to get a service, preferably in the midlands. Thanks in advance. |

Firstly what are you wanting done by means of a service? A simple oil and filter change? I service my vehicle myself. Doing an oil change is essentially like any other car, and actually one of the easiest to change oil on and the air filter etc as there is room to get to things in the engine bay......Spark plugs however are a nightmake, and if you have the V8 ( i assume by your name your's being the SS) then it is sometimes booked as a 3-4 hour job as the back passanger side plugs are a nigthmare to get to. Hopefully someone will comment on the garages near you, dont be conned by people saying well its american so its specialist and will cost XXX more, its a car and simple to work on so should cost same (and only takes 5.2 l of oil). If you are confident enough do the service yourself |

I wouldn't go back to West Midland they are too expensive and they aren't worth the money. Always had a little chip out of the paint or a broken plastic tab when I had the car back from them. Didn't really give a shit a bout your car. Don't personally know a bout the other two. I have heard ok things a bout Oldcotts and I would buy a car from them so might be worth a shot. I use a local garage that I trust and they've always managed to sort out the Camaro. So far they've done, servicing, shocks, brake pads, Mot's. No problem. |

Thanks for the quick reply. I was thinking of things beyond oil and filter changes, I can do those Eventually I want sub-frame connectors and all the other aftermarket suspension and handling components and I believe the car would need to go onto a lift to get proper access for installation, but I've only got basic tools. I'll take on board what you say about it being American and simple to work on, as well. |

I have thought about taking the Camaro to the garage where we take our regular family car. Could be worh a try. |
