Hi all,

I run a 99 Z28 manual which i understand is quite a rare beast, UK spec too sold new from Bauer Millett.

Anyway im getting some groaning noises when i reverse uphill off my drive and the car seems to surge a little when i wind it out in a gear so im guessing the clutch is on the way out.

I have yet to start digging on the US sites but i wonder if anyone on here has any advice about upgrades or good replacements, i dont race it but i can be enthusiastic sometimes.

Also a good supplier in the US would be useful as i dont think anyone over here will stock one. I usually find shopping direct cheaper even with duties, shipping, etc.

I struggled with clutches that could take the power after the new engine..

Now onto my 4th clutch in 20k miles, I've got a Mcleod twin plate RST in mine. Bit bitey on take-off but it does slip with 430 BHP & 450lbft..still uses standard size flywheel, which is unusual with a dual plate clutch.
Pretty sure they do one for the 4th gen LS1 engined cars

I've heard good things about Centerforce dual friction clutches too, but never tried one..

you can get clutches for vauxhall monaro cv8, the LS1 and T56 are (or should be) the exact same as the camaro setup (bar shifter linkage)

I'm using LS7 clutch kit. You should go ahead replace the master cylinder, slave cylinder, throw out bearing, and do the drill mod.

If you have the extra coin to spend, buy a speed bleeder.

Im looking at the LS7 at the moment, should be fine for my needs, definately would do the rest while in there.

Ive found one here for £600, or in the US for $425, which i reckon should be cheaper even with all the duties etc.

Im thinking of changing the gearbox fluid at the same time, is there a good equivalent we can buy over here?

I used just standard Valvoline tranny fluid with Dextron III ATF. Any Dexton III should be good as well.

PWP in the uk do clutches. The LS7 is good for stock and mild mods.

Of course the ACT twin's are great for more than that.
My 440 LS with over 600ftlb runs the level 1 with zero issues in 10,000 and counting..

The oil in the manual T56 box is very different to the auto boxes, which do indeed use Dextron III. I think GM synchromesh is well thought of, and I changed the oil in my Tremec as it uses the same oil as the 6 speed, I used Amsoil equivelent, but Mobil 1 sythetic ATF is highly regarded too in T56's.. GM syncromesh is usually in stock at a few US auto suppliers.
