Hi Guys, I'm thinking of fitting a Cat-back Magnaflow Dual Pipe stainless steel exhaust to my 3.8 V6 to replace my existing single pipe exhaust. Do any of you guys have this fitted and if so what does it sound like. I don't want anything too noisy but a low growl would be nice. I've heard plenty on a V8 and of cousre they sound great as do all V8's but I have never heard one on a V6. Look forward to any coments. Cheers Gerry |

A pal of mine has one on his V6 and it sounds nice and deep, sounds even better when at the higher rev range. |

Thanks for that. I think I am going to go ahead with it (my existing bow has a hole in it) it's now a job of getting one for the right price. Cheers Gerry |

Well I got my Magnaflow exhaust and asked my local garage to fit it. After cutting out my old system guess what, it didn't fit. The mid-pipe they sent was straight and my old one had a S-bend in it. Attachment:
Magnaflow Europe head office in Italy said they were aware of "issues" with this system but didn't offer any answer on fixing it. My supplier told me about an specialist exhaust fitter local to me who I ended up transporting the car to his garage (no exhaust so couldn't drive it). They made a new mid-section out of stainless with the correct bends in it which was all Ok. Attachment:
Then the rear box and pipes were too near the fuel tank and the tail pipes were not spaced evenly and looked terrible. They cut sections from the pipes and the box connectors and eventually managed to get it all fitted correctly with the right ammaount of space between the heat shield and the fuel tank and the tail pipes looking good. It sounds great, very deep and maybe a little loud So, if you want a new exhaust and you have a 4th gen of 1998 onwards DON'T get a Magnaflow 15693 system because they do not FIT. I am now fighting with Magnaflow US who don't want to know and insist that this system fits. We will see. Cheers Gerry |

Magnaflow US will still not admit there's a problem with the mid-pipe and insist it is a straight pipe. Theres a carbon steel one for sale on ebay and you can clearly see it's got a bend in it where it fits to the cat. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1996-2002-Camaro- ... 3a681a6730 Still, I will continue to fight with them and see if I can recover some of the extra expense I incured. Yeah Mine came with cat back kit fitted on a 5.7 so I had no challenges. However, I know that feeling when someone says it will fit and it doesn't - usually means they forgot the mods they made. Sound is good though and don't forget to tell the insurers = mine refused to insure it. So, If I am hit from behind, I'm not insured for replacement of the exhaust, but then I'd be claiming offf the other bloke wouldn't I? Hey ho, I'll keep it pointing frontwards! |

I'm just in the throws of getting quotes for my insurance as it expires end of July. Adrian Flux wanted an extra £30 because of the exhaust but Frank Pickles don't seem to have a problem with it and are my lowest quote so far at £211 Fully Comp. I'm going to try a couple of others to see if I can do any better. Cheers Gerry |

Interesting, I think we need to see how this works for everyone. I'm on the requote trail soon and of course it does depend on what limitation I'm prepared to accept. I know I completed 2500 miles on one fortnight's driving in France so I need to have a decent allowance on the insurance. So If anyone gets a quote can you mention if you have limited miles? Interested to hear what people find. |
