Hi all,
First post, ive been absorbing information for a while as i get used to the new toy, a 99 z28 6 speed which is my daily driver ,

Generally its pretty good (doesnt like snow) ive done a water pump, track rod end, shocks, and will be getting rid of the Eibach springs in favor of BMRs as soon as they turn up.

Im due for new rubber pretty soon and im getting a lot of nothing on the phone and online. Ive done a search and tried the suggestions there to no avail so whats the preference now?

Ive been offered Hercules and Federal at over £100 each, now without being too negative has anyone any experience of these?
I currently run Kuhmos which to be fair aint too bad but i certainly dont want to go any poorer.

Ive tried going up and down sizes a little and that throws up Toyos @ 245 55 16 . Anybody done this? Apparently they grip but dont last past the end of the road.

Then theres the option of changing wheels which is a whole new ballgame im not up to speed on yet.

Im not out of tread yet but not far to go, there must be others out there with similar problems.

Many thanks, Ben.

I've been running Toyo T1R on my car for about 2 years and well over 10,000 hard road miles and, about 6 trackdays and they're still ok...
Highly recommended..

If you're like me, who likes to drive I would get a set of tires that performs in all seasons.

BFG/Kumho/Cooper/General/Goodyear make excellent all season tires. My last 16" wheels were wearing 245/55/16 Goodyears.

I'm not too familiar what tire brand choices England have for performance aspect but I'm guessing all season tires is the same regardless of what brand?

For better lasting tires get 300 over rating (harder rubber), and Alpha rating.

Hi

I'm interested in this thread as I will need some new boots next year and have already started looking on the net. It is a challenge to find the right size. What about speed ratings R or ZR?

I had the same problem with lack of choice with the 245s when I had my 3rd gen on 16s.

The car had BFGs on when I bought them, I found them a really good all round tyre, both summer and winter
hard driving,

There were a few places that stocked these but those were all online. Shopping around online I managed to get the prices down from 60-70 down to 54 each...This would've been last summer. Since having the 4th gen this year the search was definitely harder, when I checked a month or so ago, the usual places like camskill, mytyres and ctyres do not seem to have them anymore. Even just a basic search in ebay to check popularity returned less than 10 results.

I have switched to 18s on the car but the standard 16s also had kumho ecsta's which seemed good during the summer months but cannot comment on their abilities in this colder spell.

Changing the profile either up or down could be the way to go (if you don't like the kumhos)

it really depends on what you want to do.

I've swapped out the stock 16" for 18"'s too. Think i may have been the one who told pezza too. But BMW wheels are the same PCD or stud pattern so these bolt straight on. You'll need so hub centric rings too, think mine were 70.3 to 72.6 mm ones to centralize the bmw wheels on the camaro hubs.

The only tires I ever got on my 16's were the cooper zeon zxs at the 245/50r16 size and they seemed pretty good. But for 100 a tire I prefered to get sencond hand alloys. Currently run falken fk452's at 105 a tire on the 18" in a 255/35r18 size and really happy. You'll have to weigh up the cost options really. You can pick up a decent set of alloys with parts worns for less than a new set of boots for the 16's

Hi all,
Thanks for the feedback, id take the Kuhmos if i could get them but no stock and no intent to ship any so that options gone.

Maybe the wheels are the only way to go, but i do like the stockers.

What are my options with a similar offset, something that will bolt straight on? (apart from those already mentioned)

thanks, Ben.

Tyre supply in 16" seems be getting more limited as cars run with bigger wheels.
Even 10 years ago or more it was gettiung harder to find 245/50/16's for my IROC...

I'd also recommend going for 17 or 18 inch aftermarket wheels (BMW M3 seems to fit 4th gen Camaros well) as the tyre options massively increase...

I was originally looking for some 2nd hand vette 17s but they are few n far between over here, so opted for some 18s instead
3 series E36 and E46 offset.

Tyre choice is much better altho compromise in ride quality...

^^ yeah but i got M3s on mine and call copyright

stockers are like +50 offset, the M3 ones I have are +24 so stick out 26mm more but they are also 9J vs stock 8J? so out a bit further. Almost flush with front wheel arches
