Hi Guys,

Can anyone HELP. I am trying to get a second remote for the immobilzer and door lock for my fourth gen. Without going into a long discussion I only have the one remote and no documentation on the type of Immobolizer fitted. The car was sold as new in the UK in 2001. The remote I have looks like a Toad but it is not. I have attached a photo of the remote.

Does anybody have a remote that looks like this and the documentation to go with it so that I can find out all about it. I have traced what I think is the control unit but the information on that has not been helpful so far.

Look forward to hear from anyone who can help.

Cheers Gerry.

Thanks for the info Howie, I see that you replied regarding the Central locking. Do you have a remote soely for your central locking?.

This is how mine works. I use the remote to unlock the central locking, my ignition key has a small diode in it which is programed to the ignition barrel. If I start the car within about 30 seconds the engine will start, within about another 30 seconds the doors will automatically lock. When I turn off the ignition the doors will open imidiately. When I remove the key the immobilizer wil activate within about 30 seconds. I then lock the car with the remote.

If I unlock the car with the remote and do not start the engine the immobilizer will activate again in about 30 seconds. To start the car I have to press the unlock button again on the remote to start the car.

If I unlock the car with the key the lights start flashing and the car will not start on the ignition.

This is why I am trying to get another remote just in case I loose the one I have. I have a spare set of keys but they will not do me much good if I cnanot get past the immobilizer.

So any help from anybody would be much appreciated.

Oh yes I do not have a owners handbook for the car to tell me anything about the system

Cheers Gerry

Mine doesn't do anything funny with the door locks. I know the car has a programming mode to which you can change the settings of the car i.e. to lock the doors automatically when you pull off etc, if the horn sounds when you lock it and what lights flashes when you set the alarm etc etc. That will be in the manual also.

Mine has the diode in the key like yours but always starts without needing to unlock the car, even if I leave the car unlocked overnight it will start so it sounds like you have something super secure. My motorbike has a cat 1 alarm and you can never turn off the alarm longer than 20 seconds as it keeps re-arming and is a real pain.

Stupid suggestion but I suppose you have checked under the bonnet to see if there is anything un-usual that ressembles an alarm that can get a make and model from.

sorry feel like I am no help again

Thanks for the input Howie, it´s good to get reply´s.

I searched under the hood for my control unit but found nothing, I then stared on the dash and took each section off piece by piece and still found nothing but I eventually found what I think is the control unit under the centre armrest. It was stuck with double sided tape to what I now know is the crash sensor unit for the airbags which was a bit dodgy!!!. Anyway it is a black box with no markings on it with a small green light at one end. I opened it up and found it was made in the UK, some patent numbers and a group of other numbers but no names of manufactures. I had previosly sent all the information to Tech- Tronics but they didnt know what it was and suggested it could be a tracker device but I don´t think so. If I activate the immobileizer and try to go near the box without even touching it it sets off the indicators flashing so thats what makes me think it is something to do with the immobilizer system.

Still, it looks like I shall have to keep on digging and in the meantime make sure I do not loose the remote that I have.

Cheers everyone , Gerry

Hi

Have you tried contacting Chevrolet in the UK? I know it's a long shot but I had trouble with my Chevy Blazer immobilser and they were able to tell me about the UK immobiliser that was fitted when the car arrived in the UK. They might still know where parts / fobs can be obtained.

Good Luck

Thanks for the input Arizona.

I had contacted the original supplier (Name and number still on registration plates) but they didn´t have and information on the immobolizer only it´s service history which they wouldn´t give me a copy of unfotunately. I had also contacted Bauer-Millett but they coun´t help either although they did supply me with a new set of keys after I had sent them a copy of my V5.

I´ll keep trying, thanks guys.
