Hello, I'm just wondering what everyone is doing for tyres? My car has the stock IROC 16x8 wheels, which are supposed to be running 245/50-16 tyres. It's currently running two cracked Cooper Cobra 245s at the back, and one cracked 225-50-16 Cooper Cobra and one 'Wanli' 225-50-16 at the front. The front ones have the wrong aspect ratio, which means the fronts look a bit lost in the arches, and the nose is about an inch closer to the ground than it should be. There aren't that many tyres choices in 245/50-16, but I'd really prefer to keep the stock wheels and tyre sizes. Tyre choices seem to be Kumhos, Sonar SX-2 or Nexen Premiere-class (apparently!), but that's about it. An alternative would be to use 225/55-16 (55 sidewalls maintains the rolling circumference), which opens up a lot more alternatives, but I'd quite like to keep the sidewall bulge from the bigger tyre I'm not particularly concerned about the cutting edge of tyre performance, or wet-grip really (as the car will hardly ever see rain) and I'm more concerned about having four identical tyres, so I'll probably just go for the Sonar as I can get them fitted for about £60 each. It'll be a pity not to have 'COOPER COBRA' on each tyre though! So, what's everyone else running? N |

I used to run Uniroyals, way more affordable than brands like Cooper (as they are made in the EU) and really good performance ratings (wet grip, mpg etc.). Have you checked websites like camkskill? They have a really good selection of tyres and the prices are great too. |

Camskill was one of the first places I tried - they only stock Kumho tyres in 245/50-16. I can't find Uniroyal in that size anywhere. There are a lot more options in the US, but getting them into the UK won't be cheap! |

Ah ok, ye 16" tyres are less common these days (17" has a much greater selection). There are web sites like oponeo and mytyre (all the same company in Hannover Germany!) but the pricing is competitive and delivery is oddly free and quick. A friend bought some Cobra's from there and they arrived in a week. Which to be fair is the same amount of time it takes for something to get delivered from within this country. Don't know if you've tried those sites? Kumho are good tyres, I have a set of 15" ones and they are in the mid - upper end of the market. |

Thanks for the suggestions - I tried both Oponeo and Mytyres and both suggested only the Kumhos or the Sonar tyres. Unfortunately both companies are more expensive than I've managed to find. I suspect the company I've found are probably trying to get rid of old stock - I'd better get them while I can! |
