Well that year has flown around, almost a year since we have the Camaro.

Any of you good people know what to check in advance? I've one light to replace, a small one in the headlight which doesn't appear to be stock. I only get the handbrake light showing on the dash, all others don't show, now I've not put a classic through an MOT before so anyone know if there's any difference to modern (dull LOL) cars? There's no cat that I can see so the emissions will be a visual I'm guessing.

You'll be fine on a 1985 car with no CAT, don't think it was compulsory until 93', even so most MOT guys won't know enough about yanks to exactly determine the year.
Other stuff is the same as modern cars, play in joints, bushes etc, and tyre condition, rust, working lights, wipers, seat belts etc

Thanks for that, so the lights on the dash - choke etc - have to be working? Dammit, now I have to find out why they aren't!

Doubt if choke matters....
handbrake light.. hmm no idea.. I guess if the E brake works well enough it's what matters... Don't think warning light was ever compulsary (worse way, disconnect the bulb)

That's what I was thinking but wasn't sure when it comes to a classic. I've seen the choke light blink on but no idea what other lights are on there

To be honest whenever I've taken an old yank in they always seem lenient as they are all petrolheads (apart.from the muppets who consistenowant to fail more on a broken steering bracket that doesn't exist and isn't broken anyway)

Not true. Many lights are not MOT testable. Choke, engine management, brake wear, handbrake 'left on' warning lamp etc.
Testable lamps include: Indicator telltale, high beam telltale, fog light telltale, and where fitted, ABS, SRS (airbag) Stability System and others.
If you're bored you could always grub about in the manual online for a specific item that you're worried about.
Also I think you will find that unleaded gas became law in the US in 1974 because leaded gas killed the cataclysmic diverters.
DVSA has not given a definitive resource to show which vehicles came with cats so you may not have to worry about the visual cat check (for presence) BUT the car should be emissions tested according to it's age and 1985 is emissions testable, albeit a much softer test than later cars. HTH
Cheers, Martin (still MOT testing for now)

Mine was built December 1985 and was fitted with a CAT.

Not related to the question but I've got to remember that 'cataclysmic diverters comment' :lolno: Brilliant
