Hello, hope this is the right place to introduce myself?

I'm about to get delivery of a 1985 Chevrolet Camaro this week and thought I'd join a forum like this to get some information if that's okay?

My main concern is about petrol, not the price.....well that as well ;-), but is it advisable to use an additive in the tank or what is recommended by everyone here? It sounds like a stupid question but it's the first time I've owned a car this old.

Hello and welcome, there is a separate section for introducing yourself but I don't really think it matters in the slightest!

What kind of additives are you considering? I don'the think it is necessary to use any, not to my knowledge anyway. I have a 79 Z28 and just use regular unleaded.

All American cars moved to unleaded fuel from the early seventies so that won't be an issue. Another additive is a performance boost upping the ron/mon value of the petrol, but again generally American cars are designed to run on the crappy cheapest petrol you can get over in the states so our slightly better stuff will be like treating your car to some fancy small brewery premium beer instead of Fosters...

Hello and welcome. .

Looking forward to seeing pics or more of on the new delivery.
As said above standard unleaded will be fine, no additives needed... some much older cars will need a lead substitute just to help lubricate the valve train but only on old original motors from pre early 70s..

For fuel, as previously mentioned just use the normal stuff, premium not needed as the engines were designed to run off of the normal stuff :thumbup: It may be worth adding some fuel additive on the first fill up as you don't know the history. I used some on my '87, 1 bottle treated 2 tank ups and haven't used any since. Stuff doesn't normally build up in the lines or injectors (if you have injection) so no need to do it regularly. B&Q surprisingly sell redline carb / injector cleaner at a really good price (about half the price of most places) so worth grabbing a bottle for a few £ and then you know it's had a bit of a clean.

Hello all and thanks for the replies.

No idea what sort of additives were needed it was just a general question, is there on that allows a 5 litre to do over 30MPG? (*see there is such a thing as a silly question ;-) )

I get my grubby mits on the Camaro on Friday afternoon all being well so I'll be able to get some pictures over the weekend.

I've sold our Chrysler 300 HEMI and funded the Camaro out of that, plus we've a Cadillac that is to go, running two cars is a bit much at the moment

Okay had it a couple of days and first impressions are 'isn't it small inside for such a big car?' and 'where's the damn glove compartment ;-)'

Can I ask, is it usual for the needle on the fuel dial to waver about a lot? It bounces from quarter of a tank to half a tank when I'm going along.

Apart from that it moves like excrement off a soil digging tool :twisted:

Looks nice and clean, good colour too :)

Not too sure on the needle wavering, potentially a poor connection.

And I actually think my series 2 has loads of room (in the front), but then i wasn't expecting much when half the car is hood ;)

I found with mine the fuel gauge does move alot, nice flat road and all is good, corner brake accelerate it moves its like it has no damping on the dial with half a tank if I corner one way it reads empty the other way its full lol

I'm up in the Yorkshire Dales and there's precious few straight level roads, the movement of the needle almost hypnotises me LOL
