Still waiting on a TV cable for my recently purchased 1987 IROC TPI with 700r4.

The one on the car when I bought it wasn't good and had been bodged with a twisted wire. Gearbox didn't shift quite right on test drive but seemed to respond well to adjusting the cable on the second test drive, plus have all the receipts with the car for a full recon on the box only 12 months/1000 miles ago...

However upon further detailed reading I read it ruins the transmission if I drive it with TV cable incorrectly adjusted or disconnected...

I took a fair chunk off the asking price because of this and so I guess it may be worst case - Burnt transmission

Has anyone else encountered TV cable issues on their 700r4's?

ALSO - What oil & additive does everyone use for their rear differentials (Gonna service mine), and where do you get it from?

If driven with the cable disconnected or not adjusted correctly then you'll burn up the clutches in the transmission.

The cable controls the increase in line pressure as you increase throttle to prevent the clutches slipping, and it also controls the shift points.

I'd be tempted to get a new cable hooked up and adjusted correctly, then drive it and see what happens. If it slips then it will need a rebuild.

If you want to do a bit of investigation then drop the pan off and see if there's a lot of friction material inside. If so, plan a rebuild.

For the back axle, depends if you have a posi/lsd. If you don't, any 80w90 or similar gear oil will be fine. If you have a positive, use one with the additives in, I prefer the Titan one from Opie.

Yeah this was my plan too. The fluid is the right colour, although its smelling more and more clutchy now! On the 2.5 hours drive home it didn't slip at all, it just wasn't responsive to downshifting under throttle.

Hopefully its just the cable.. Where would I buy a filter kit and oil for it?

The rear axle is G80 LSD. Do you have the link to the oil?

This is the oil: http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-850-silkole ... 5w-90.aspx

For a filter and pan gasket try Vanmatic, ask for Steve, might have them in stock

Otherwise give Mark at WASP a call on 01354 610333...
