So i went to get the alignment sorted to address the "pulls to the left" and outer tyre wear issue. The guy had a look and said , may need to get you to replace the outer tie rod first, adjuster looks pretty rusted up. He asked one of the other mechanics to have a look and he grabbed the adjuster and said - ye, that shouldn't wobble like that. It had a LOT of movement on the inner tie rod. He said probably best not to carry on driving it.

So i've just ordered inner and outer tie rods for both sides, centre link, idler arm and adjuster sleeves from rockauto (probably may not need centre link and idler arm, but whilst it's all apart, may as well change it all out at once, plus with the cost of extra shipping getting it later, may as well bundle it into 1.)

Also got a centre link for the 2nd gen and also managed to break the system - shipping was going to be £90, and i thought i should add an intake gasket set from fel pro, as it wouldn't add any extra shipping cost due to the size and weight, and it actually brought the shipping down to £75 :wtf: the kit was £15 so kind of got a free intake kit. So that was weird, but won't argue with it.

Debating whether to drive the car any longer until changing out the tie rods. It's been driving like this for over a year...

If its been the same for a year I doubt an extra week while the bits arrive will make any difference.

The worse that can happen is a tie rod breaks, and you crash off the A412 into a tree..

Oh the joys of getting tracking done on a camaro, " computer says no" was the common reply when I needed it doing last year

Think i'm going to have to drive cautiously, it's the balljoint connection on the inner tie rod on the drivers side, where it connects to the centre link. It looks like the balljoint's worn as that's where the play is coming from.

Not sure if the balljoint just wears out and then stays there knocking about and just causes alignment / tracking issues? Was worrying when the guy said to probably not drive it till it's replaced :/

I went with all Moog bits, including the sleeves, as they were £10 for the pair (Hotchkis ones would be £65 via Steve via Summit). Those Hotchikis ones look nice and beefy! Never thought that the sleeves would be a flex area, but it makes sense. I don't think i can justify the expense unfortunately - just spent £150 on the ignition bits, then this order was £300 (did get a centre link for the 2nd gen and an intake gasket set for the 3rd gen). And road tax reminder just came through for £230 for end of this month. £680  Aren't you supposed to get money during birthday month? Oh ye and then i'll still need to pay £30 - £40 for the alignment on the weekend once it's installed.
And then MOT next month.
And need to get the leaky axle sorted.

Pretty sure my solid tie rod sleeves are Edelbrock and were about $30 or less...

Didn't know there were options when it came to tie rod sleeves! Just though it was a standard replacement piece.

Made a quick vid about how it looks - likely it will last a week?

Changed out the front steering linkage today (centre link, idler arm, inner and outer tie rods on both sides and adjuster sleeves).

Went pretty well, centre link to pitman arm was a bit of a challenge to separate but got there in the end. Changed it all out to Moog suspension, measured up the old linkage and set the new linkage to those measurements but it definitely needs an alignment. Took it for a test drive and it pulls in both directions. Should be able to get the alignment done Wednesday.

Drove the Clio to work today, first time driving on right hand side of a car for 2 years. Was pretty easy, main difference was judging the distances of things on the passenger side. I have no idea how i drove the Clio for 8 years. Not a lot happens when you press the go pedal. Seating position is a lot different, felt like driving a bus!
