Hi chaps. Come on you've both bought thirdgens within the last 2 weeks. Post some pics and do a thread on them, dying to see.

Car Details:Looking for a good gen 3 camaro
Ok this is the car I've bought, apologies for the ebay link (especially the pictures!!) but while I was meant to be collecting this weekend it ended up just being a viewing as I got let down at last minute with the trailer, I could do with some advice really, the cars chassis number decodes as being a z28, it has a lot of z28 bits on it, but that front bumper is of a lower spec car and the bonnet is I think as it's steel (I think these early gen 3s had fibreglass hoods and it's an '83 car) and doesn't have the vents in the bulged area in the centre.

The car should be white, I have to say there is a good chance it will be going back white as it looks very doggy at the moment the respray doesn't help matters, whether I can rescue the black is debatable but I don't think it's doing much for the car anyway.

The engine is also a bit of a mystery, thankfully the 305 has gone walk about and it has a 350 block in it, what has been done to it so far I don't know but I do know it has an edelbrock manifold and holley on it as well as a mallory dizzy so I'm hopeful that there are some nice bits inside!

Ok, looks cool!

If I were you I would look at a strategy. Do you want it to be a Z28? The rear lights are from an IROC so are wrong and the Z28 should have a fiberglass hood with rams (that have flaps that operate) but they are v hard to find. The front nose is wrong - I think this one is a Berlinetta which to be honest is a refreshing change and can look really god on 3rds.

Is it MOT'd? Get some fresh pics up when you can.

I hate the nose, probably made worse by the skirt missing, so I think a Z28 or Iroc nose will have to be found, must admit I'm no fan of the bonnet either, I'd really like a fibreglass bonnet as it will be a bit lighter too, I'm not however chasing originality, the Iroc lights are fine I don't prefer or dislike them over what it should have.

No MOT it will need an awful lot of going over to check work that has been done so far, I don't normally take on a half finished project of someone elses but I wasn't finding anything else in my budget. There will be a lot of bits missing in my experience of this type of project, the work that has been done so far is ok but it all needs checking and some bits will need redoing.

I'm quite keen on a fibreglass bonnet as the long term plan will be handling from the car, so any weight I can shed is a bonus.

That bumper looks totally different to mine, yours looks nice, is it a one piece unit or does it have a seperate skirt? Mines missing the skirt and it looks really pointy and horrid. What's the bonnet?

Mine was picked up by trailer at the weekend and is now parked on axle stands in a barn on my girlfriend's farm. The body seems pretty solid, and generally the car's pretty good. The list of jobs that need doing is increasing, and I'll probably be on here asking for advice again pretty soon!

Needless to say, a 5.0l V8 on open headers in a tin barn sounds fricking awesome. Pity it won't idle, but I haven't yet sorted through all the potential loose electrical connections and vacuum leaks. Plus the choke is missing off the quadrajet, not sure how much of an issue that is...

Other than that, there's a few electrical gremlins to resolve: wipers, windscreen washers, indicators are all a bit sketchy. The horn doesn't work and the under-bonnet wiring is a bit of a mess. Plus a defunct alarm had been wired in, apparently by a clumsy, blind man in a rush. Oh, and the driver's seat doesn't lock upright.

Apart from that, we've all become rather fond of it! It's like a big, stupid Labrador that's completely useless and yet somehow quite lovable...
