It does look tidy.

Bit expensive though. I'd be taking those rear wheel spacers off as well. :wtf:

Certainly looks nice. I remember seeing a same colour 3 rd gen last year but not sure if it was that number. Say stainless steel exhaust form the cats back. It`s a 1991 so will it even need cats? I mean, it won`t need an emissions test will it at that age?

The 1le 3rd gen was like a secret stealth version of an SS, well worth a read up if you don't know about them, I think it was in the back of classic american magazine and I'm sure it was around the £6k mark if I was to buy another 3rd gen the 1le would be the model I would aspire to own, here's an extract from the web
"It wasn’t that Chevrolet wanted to limit the performance of customer cars; instead, the automaker was concerned that the 1LE package was far too extreme for street use, so it took steps to limit availability to racing teams only. The package wasn’t listed on any order form, so obtaining a Camaro IROC-Z in 1LE specifications required “tricking” Chevrolet’s scheduling system into building the car. First, a buyer had to order an IROC-Z with either the optional LB9 (305-cu.in) V-8 or the optional B2L (350-cu.in.) V-8. Next came production code RPO G92, a “Performance Rear Axle” kit that included 3.42:1 rear axle gearing for five-speed manual transmission cars or 3.23:1 rear gearing for automatic-equipped cars, followed by the G80 Positraction rear end. Finally, the “secret handshake” was to order this combination without air conditioning, which in turn triggered the build of the car to 1LE specifications.

In addition to the above options, the 1LE package included stiffer springs and struts; heavy-duty disc brakes; thicker front and rear antiroll bars; heavy-duty spindles and wheel bearings; an aluminum drive shaft and a baffled fuel tank that included dual pickups to prevent fuel starvation at high cornering speeds. Perhaps to test the waters, Chevrolet built a total of just four 1LE models for the 1988 model year, making this particular variant the rarest of the already rare 1LE models"
They built a few thousand in total I think

Spoke at length to the owner. First of all. Twistesanity, you`re spot on my man. That was the same car bought a year ago. If I recall it was £7500??

Anyway. The current owner tried to buy the car the last time round, two or three years back and seemingly it`s a rare as rocking horse $hit car. In the year he`s had it he has spent a small fortune on it and hours and hours getting it right. He said when he bought it needed a few things seeing to. He comes across as a bit of a fussy owner and knows a lot about these kinda cars and as such thing`s need to be working or he can`t live with it. He said he planned to add a 383 stroker and drag it but says it`s too good a car to strip out and race. ( ) He has his eye on a 79 that he can use for that purpose.
Strange accent, thought he was Australian, turns out he`s from the Falklands and now lives in Southampton. Really open and honest and appears to be hiding nothing.

All the recent work.

(New Bosch water pump,
distributor,
electronic module ,
oil pressure sensor,
Heater matrix,
Aux belt,
Engine oil and filter,
new K&N air filters bottom of the boxes removed for more air,
8 new injectors triple spray type,
new hatch pull down motor.
Engine cooling flushed new added.
1986/7 16x8 iroc z wheels with 1 1/2" rear spacers and new rear tyres, also comes with the original 1LE 16x8 wheels with tyres.
Smog removed ready for Headers, Hood blister functional so let's all that heat out in Summer
New silver Emblems all round)

A lot of work and parts. In saying that, that doesn`t mean there is an ulterior motive to sell. He drove a 150 mile trip to Poole in it last week so it apparently goes ok.

Nice thing to have in your garage as a sunny day toy. I`m tempted.

Any input?

dont recall it being £7500 , a friend was looking for a camaro and his budget was £5k and i reccomended it to him as being just a bit overbudget, im not sure i would want to pay his asking price though as it seems like a lot of money for a 3rd gen even if it is a very rare model and he has put money into it, if it was below 50,000 miles i would probably be tempted, as an investment that you are going to keep for many years and not up the mileage too much i would say £7500 is top whack on what i would pay, have a look in the us market and see what they are worth , for a car that old i would just equate £'s to $'s by the time you pay import and tax, you thinking about it then?

I would a also consder that he thought it was worth £7500 or whatever lower amount he haggled when he brought it , he didn't know it would need all that work doing or count on spending a few grand when he paid up so adding it on and expecting to get it back is a bit optimistic from my point of view, I doubt anyone on here would get what they paid plus what they have spent back if they sold, just don't tell the Mrs !!

I see what you`re saying and his asking price is fantasy , I get that and it`s only natural to ask what you think it`s worth. I`m not really fussed about his asking price because he won`t get it , I only see the car. I`ve been through all this before and when it comes to American cars or just cars (and I`ve had my fair share) I`ve seen and turned down plenty. A huge percentage of them to me are total dogs and I mean, running scrap.

If it ticks all the boxes , then I`ll try to buy it at my price. If not, then I`ll walk away. Also you can`t compare the US market with here. Fox Mustangs are worth nothing here. Zip. I have a friend that had a stupid low miles minted 5.0 manual Fox notch . Reduced the price umpteen times and couldn`t give it away. It ended up going back over the pond. S197s are silly money here compared to over by yet SN95 prices are all over the shop. Saabs are big money in Switzerland but peanuts here. It`s supply/demand and desirability. For £7000 you can hardly buy a rotten Capri. I was supposed to buy a C5 Corvette manual recently and before I got to view it , it was gone. His price was optimistic too (£3k above the rest) and a few people said it was overpriced but it went to the first viewer.
Anyway, it`s just an idea, we`ll see how it pans out.

Are you kidding me? £7,500 is perfectly acceptable especially for a car this clean and a 1LE!! These are seriously rare. It's about time people who don't want to spend any money on these cars stopped buying these cars. Values in the US are picking up nicely and good luck finding something like this, importing it for anywhere near that money.

OP if you are looking at a nice un-molested top-of-the-line, only one in the UK cars, then this is it. I would buy this in a heartbeat if I wanted a thirdgen.

Thanks. I tend not to get involved in `what cars are worth` debates as the value of a car or anything for that matter is completely subjective. I think it looks really clean but I`d need to see it in the flesh. He has, just now sent me a couple of videos of the car. Looks and sounds lovely. I might try to upload them.
