Sorry, but these feel like really stupid questions. But I can't find the answers, so here goes......

After Xmas (not allowed to do it before!) I will be fitting some lovely new valve / rocker covers to my car:

When I bought them I got a new PCV valve as I already knew I needed a new one. I also realised I needed a new filler cap, as these use rubber push in types so I got one of them as well as new gaskets. They came with mounting bolts.

However, the first thing I noticed was the 'Chevrolet' would read upside down if I put them on the way they were intended. So I want to put them on the opposite sides or spin them round so they look right. First Question - Does it matter if the oil filler cap is on the passenger side rocker cover instead of the drivers side? Presumably it makes no difference?

The other thing I have noticed is there is another pipe running from the standard valve cover on the passenger side which goes into the throttle body. I assume this is a 'breather' but am not sure. Second Question - Can I replace this pipe with a breather and blank the intake to the throttle body or does this do something else? The drivers side has the PCV valve and a hose going into the intake manifold, I understand this one at least

Final Question - The new valve covers have baffles in them under two of the holes. If I remove one / either / both of these does it matter? If I turn the covers round so the name reads the right way this may help me keep the PCV valve in the right location.

Just in case this makes a difference, it is a standard 5.7 TPI L98 engine, standard in my 1991 Z28

Looking at the article I would be, in effect, converting mine from a 'closed' PCV system (where if the pressure built up it would vent into the intake and get sucked back into the engine, stopping excess vapors going into the atmosphere) to an 'open' system with a breather on top of the valve cover. The only drawback I can see is that it would potentially allow vapors back into the atmosphere under specific circumstances.

Other than the obvious emission / pollution debate is there any other negative to doing this?

Remove the baffles and you´ll be sucking oil into the motor not just vapour.

My passenger side valve cover has a breather filter on it, the other a PVC valve into the carb base.
I did have, for a short while, breather filters on both covers but the car inside stank of oil.
