Post subject:  Looking for a V8 manual

Hello,

I've already posted about this in the newbie section, but just in case you guys don't go in there...

I'm looking for a V8 manual third gen (although I'd be interested if you know of a manual V8 4th gen). I'm based down in the Southeast.

So, does anyone have one they'd like to sell or know of one on the market? Hopefully not too far away....

Cheers,

N

Does anyone have any advice on performing an auto-to-manual transmission swap on one of these in the UK?
Would I have to ship parts from America?
What gearbox could I use with a 5.7, or would I be limited to a 5.0?

I'm not that clued up on all things manual for 3rd gens, but my 2nd gen was an auto, now a 5 speed manual.

3rd gen has way more electrical gubbins involved I think, but if it's anything like mine was I'm guessing you'd need: clutch mechanism, gearbox crossmember, shortened propshaft, reverse light wiring, speedo linkage (all depending on what gearbox), pedal assembly, gearbox (probably a T5, as these are sourceable in the UK from crashed TVR's etc but you'd need the correct Chevy bellhousing & selector bits)
I think early 3rd gens had 4speed T10 boxes, but I'd stick with 5 speed personally.

I think you are a lot more likley to find a manual box 4th gen than a 3rd, I have one and my friend sold his last year. Might be worth keeping an eye on the bay of fleas

I had seen the kit from Hawksthirdgenparts, which seemed quite reasonable. I was just wondering how feasible it was to assemble the parts in the uk. I'm just testing the waters here! For it to make sense financially, I'd probably have to do it myself and it might be a bit beyond my skills...

Interesting point on the 4th gens, there is this Pontiac on the 'Bay at the moment: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PONTIAC-TRANS ... 3394e84715

Can anyone give me a ballpark figure for the cost of shipping that conversion kit from the states? Sorry if that's a daft question, or one that really needs specifics - I have no idea if it'd be £50 or £500!

Many thanks,

N

Haha! I knew what that was without even clicking on the link! I've followed overdrive's projects on Retrorides previously. I think that would be biting off waaaay more than I can chew!

Still, does have a really nice stance on those tyres...

Ah, ok - I'm still just contemplating the feasibility of it, but if they're a friendly company I'll punt off an e-mail and see what they say. Cheers for the information!
