Hi Guys we are changing our interior to black on our Z28, problem is the plastic trim in the trunk
and rear are all grey. Obviously I don't want to buy new or second hand black trim and ive heard it can be sprayed. So i Was wondering if there is a way to spray the trims black. And if so what's the best way to do it.

Car Details:79' camaro road & track day toy. 383 stroker, 5 speed TKO trans, lots of suspension stuff, 13" Vette brakes, 18" wheels.
Location:Luton
I think a few of the 2nd gen guys have repainted interiors. 78camaro and flak monkey plus more

I've just use primer and aerosols from my local auto paint shop.

Im guessing give them a dam good clean before applying the primer. any preference on the aerosol can ?

Just wire wool, and a bit of Flash Bathroom from memoriy (what I had at hand :mrgreen: )
Can't remember the make, was a few years ago, just what my local paint supplier had..

I think it's going to be exactly the same as painting exterior plastic trim, look at keying the surface properly, get rid of any dust or oil and grease. Use a good quality plastics primer (note, these are different from regular primers). Then colour.

The biggest issue you may face, is once dried the flex in the panel itself maybe enough to crack the finish paint.

Thanks for the input guys, I have the plastic primer, we are now is the process of cleaning up the trims.

Sorry for not replying earlier! What the guys said previously is spot on, make sure the surface is CLEAN and well scuffed. Then primer, then colour. It would be ideal to have a 'plastic adhesion promotor' which helps create a bit of chemical bond to stop the coatings from flaking off. I skipped the primer stage, went from tan to black. If you went the opposite way - dark to light, then a primer would be a big help. But going from light to dark, you can go with adhesion promoter then the final colour. You can probably use regular matt / satin black aerosol spray. I used SEM colour coat for mine. I skipped the adhesion promotor step and it has chipped in the corners, so i will get some adhesion promotor and redo those areas. This company is a good supplier from what i've found http://www.nwsr.co.uk/ lots of interior stuff - repairs / recoating etc and very helpful with their advice. Good luck and looking forward to the before and afters!
