Hi guys, My car's due to go for paint in a few weeks and I'm looking to change the rear hatch before then. As well as the current hatch being a bit rusty, I don't like the big clunky third brake light they put on the top of the hatchbacks on the '86 models. It would be simplest to have replaced it with an '87 or later hatch which has the subtle third brake light, but the rust-free unit that came my way for the princely sum of £5 is off an '85 car, hence no third brake light at all. Just wondered about the MOT legality of doing such a swap? I know all equipment fitted must work, but if the equipment's not there at all...?? |

If you change the hatch for one without the high level brake light...................how will they know ? It´s not going to have any tell tale holes in it. I did the same years ago, I had the chance to buy just the glass, from a guy just down the road, and was so glad to get rid of that light which is basically a moisture gatherer. They get rusted up and are a bugger to replace. I propped the old hatch glass against the wall, went in for lunch and while eating there was one helluva bang The glass fell and shattered into tiny tiny pieces. A fitting end. |
